    Materia help

    Hi,

Can someone please explain materia to me? I did read the guide but i'm still clueless as to how i can ask someone to meld for me. I shouted many times in uldah for help but it seems pple are just as clueless.

As per the guide you need a crafting class 18+ in order to be able turn gear into materia.. which i have no interest in right as i have no crafting class at that level yet.

To meld materia you need a gathering class 18+ to get the quest. But what if you want someone to meld for you? ? How does that work and what are the requirements?

Why did SE have to make this so damn complicated? Didn't Apple prove enough times that the more simple things are the better it is?

To ask someone to meld, you need to have the Catalyst listed on the materia, e.g. Fossilized Matter, and enough gil for the fee (no more than 2000g iirc). You then simply select the piece of equipment in your Inventory and select Request Materia Melding. Then I believe it will have you pick the materia to be melded and confirm. All players can then see the meld request icon and if they are able can perform the meld as long as you don't wander off while they're attempting it.

You have to have any class 18+ to produce materia. You have to have a crafting class 18+ to meld materia and a gathering class 18+ to harvest Catalysts. The starting quest is from an NPC inside Ul'dah just to the left of where the main entrance tunnel leads into the city, standing against the outer wall. This NPC will direct you to where the colored smoke is rising NE of Camp Black Brush, where Mutamix Bubblypots and his assistants are studying materia and its properties. You get the actual quests for assimilating, melding, and gathering catalysts, along with the associated skills or key items, from the NPCs there.

If you click on the Materia tab you can see what materia you can get from spiritbonding, what gear certain materia can be melded to, and what catalysts you need to make it happen.

    Bitter-mode activated.

Some days I feel like I'm the only one here with any game design sense or knowledge of the game development process.

Here’s a really good all-in-one materia chart that Terah Valeth made.

It shows what material can be melded into what type of equipment, what catalysts are required to do so, what the stats are for each tier of materia, what materia is yielded from breaking different types of equipment, everything is color-coded and well organised, and the chart is graphically great looking, making it easy on the eyes. ^^ It's also updated to 1.22

Thanks for the guids guys but even tho i got the right materia right catalyst now there is still no option to request melding. I take it that i a forced to go and craft+gather all the way to 18 to get the option? I keep getting pple telling to select the item and that the option will be there but it is just not there for me.

This is a big let down for me from SE. Again they go with the force u to play all class bs. I have no interested into turning gear to materia or melding for others since i got no crafting classes so why am i forced into it again?

You can't meld material if the materia is a higher level then the level requirement for the equipment (ex: can't meld tier IV materia on a level 30 belt). Also, make sure that type of equipment (body, head, legs, etc) can support the type of materia you're trying to meld. You also can't request for materia meld through bazaar if the gear is already melded (it can only single meld, not double).

Could one of these be the reason it's not working for you?

    Hey Onidemon,

Sorry to hear about the confusion! You don't need to level a crafting or gathering class to level 18 to request materia be melded. As stated in the patch notes for 1.22: * Only players who possess a materia assimilator can make a melding request. The "materia assimilator" is obtained by completing the quest "Forging the Spirit" from the NPC Swynbroes in Central Thanalan (29,20).

This quest is available to everyone over level 18 (not only Disciples of the Land/Hand classes).

    Hopefully this clears it up!

@Mystina, For a while, I thought those were moon phases on the chart. I got so giddy!

    On my tenth chocobo.
Ninth chocobo failed to correctly guess the Hidden Artifact, thus eaten.
Future Fiosha ate my eighth chocobo. I'm not even sure if it was good.
My seventh chocobo fell on a culinarian and the only way to get him off was to eat him.
The sixth was not fabulous enough to survive the world merge.
