    Companions - Pets and Side-kicks

    I was reading the compilation of features to hit 2.0, and at seeing the mention of a companion system, I was curious as to whether the system would only be limited to tamed beasts and mounts, or include things like our path of the 12 companion and even our retainers fighting alongside us.

    While I appreciate that a companion system is even being considered, I'll admit I was very fond of the adventuring fellow from FFXI. My exposure to SW:TOR showed me that companions can be more than just a walking healer or tank when you're soloing, as they can also be used as foils or sidekicks depending on your level of dedication to lolRP. Not that I'm bashing people who want tamed beasts and attack chocobo, but I have an easier time picturing my lalafel travelling around with my boastful female hyur path companion or perhaps my overly attached mi'qote retainer over a pet or a tamed beast.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    "Companions" are more like an acquaintance you briefly saw for a day or two last year, then never again. They should just call them escorts...

    I also enjoyed the npcs from XI. Personally, I feel like TOR goes a little overboard with their helpful NPCs, but I do think we should get our path companion at least (in addition to choco/pets).
