The Chimera, the Monk and the Guard

Hello again.

A lot of time has passed since I opened this Topic and by now if you're a Monk and have a linkshell, you know Monks can be quite useful against the chimera.
However, since I said to myself I would have posted an update of my personal experience, I'd like to do it now.

A few minutes ago I completed my latest journal post, “The Last Challenges”, and among those there's the chimera, that finally I could beat!



Thus, the Darklight Raiders have been avenged and I can move tranquil to the end of time, awaiting for the new Eorzea to explore.

Among my last challenges, there was also an unexpected surprise: with my last party not only I could kill the chimera, but also get all the dungeons' Achievements.

And that includes the Full Speed Run of Cutter's Cry as a Monk, what many months ago was said “Impossible” to do.



So I would like to quote from my journal:

I'd like to say to all the adventurers that in the past used the word “Impossible” for a Monk to do the Speed Runs, all the dozens who refused my Subligar for those places, for Garuda or even for Ifrit, and who insist on using the same setups in their runs: HAH!
I conquered all those challenges and I proudly did it as a Monk, my one and only Disciple of War: that's the biggest satisfaction I could achieve before Eorzea will be Reborn.


So Cutter's Cry Speed Run with Monk was indeed possible and it's a shame adventurers annoyed the hells out of themselves spamming the instanced raids with the same setups/Jobs stacking in the last moons.

I also conqured The Aurum Vale and Garuda in Speed Runs, and it's too bad that so many adventurers still refuse to group Monks for that primal for unknown reasons.
Due to the time I stay in Eorzea, I can mainly play with japanese adventurers, so somehow I'll manage to get my Talons; however, it's just a pity sooo many are afraid of us Monks, even if like I illustrated (and you know it if you're a Monk) Speed Runs of any kind are possible.

Oh well, in any case I'm glad that in A Realm Reborn the Speed Runs won't be mandatory anymore. Hopefully this will encourage adventurers to try different setups, and that's where the real fun is after all.

I don't do many pickup groups anymore but from what I've seen, not many do BLM burn on Chimera anymore. We do it like this:

Monks are highly wanted for AV runs, at least for the very last part of it, but you might have to be another needed class during the rest of it.

But I do agree, there are way too many cookie cutter set-ups for these battles, and anything different makes it 10times harder, so people avoid trying anything different because they know how bad it will be.

I do hope they add more melee friendly battles, but I do advice you to level your other classes to 50 when you can, that way you can play other important roles. FF isn't a game where you pick 1 class and stick to it to the end, at least you wont have major issues and people "insulting" you for enjoying playing a monk, believe me, I have seen the worst, to people saying mean things like "useless class" ... whatever. But well being versatile cant hurt and you will get more party invites, be a monk whenever you can, like punching Miser Mistress to dust, and be something else when the battle isn't melee friendly

i guess nobody think mnk is useless class but look at average player cant do the easiest job as blm/thm for Primal. As a pug pt, nobody would like to take a risk.

The armory system lets people change jobs mid run. Giving the player who plays multiple classes a big advantage over someone who plays 1 class.

So level up all classes or deal with it and enjoy not being invited to most pugs. It was how the game was made . The entire reason to even have armory system. By choosing to ignore the whole reason of the system you are going to have to experience the consequences.
Blame SE not other players. People almost always will want optimal setup for pugs. This has happened in almost every mmo .

Get a linkshell if you want disadvantage your group.

(personally i hate the idea of class switching mid run however i would never disadvantage my group . I would to play the optimal setup rather then waste peoples time).

Most people understand that most fights can be done with all classes but there is always an optimal that increases chance of success(in case of speed runs chance to succeed greatly decreases with non optimal setup). Alot of people in this game already struggle while playing the optimal. So why would people trust strangers to not mess up while playing non-optimal setups? People have wiped enough times to be skeptical and prefer to wait the extra time for the optimal setup. Why should you expect strangers to play differently because you want to play a class with plaws .

Alot of these why cant i play what i want to complains ignore the fact that there are 7 players who dont want to play with you. Why should be forced to take you along. This is not elementary school were teacher forces you to play together.
