Conjurer Jackson and the Wand of Tides

    Hi Conjurers out there,

I just wanted to reiterate this piece of info (and sabotage Wand of Tide sales while giving more incentive for Tremors or Gales), but since Water Magic Potency does not enhance the effectiveness of Cure spells and we do not have water spells, how come so many people have it?

Is it the opo-opo mischief? Do the wands look pretty? All for the +3 Mind? Or just available since Tremors and Gales wasn't present?

    On my tenth chocobo.
Ninth chocobo failed to correctly guess the Hidden Artifact, thus eaten.
Future Fiosha ate my eighth chocobo. I'm not even sure if it was good.
My seventh chocobo fell on a culinarian and the only way to get him off was to eat him.
The sixth was not fabulous enough to survive the world merge.

Pretty sure it's the MND, color, or you put healing magic potency on your wand before CNJ lost its elemental spells and are too lazy/unlucky to get a new one. I'm using a Wand of Tremors with Healing Potency now since it helps out nuking a little, Healing quite a bit, and has +VIT to boost Enhancing Potency (Regen Potency) ever so slightly.

Just have to add, though, that way back when we had the class reforms the devs said the elemental spells will be split between the two existing mages, with THM getting Fire/Lightning/Ice and CNJ getting Earth/Wind/Water. They probably just nudged water out of the current hard-limit skillsets for balancing/fine tuning/gauging how strong a healer that can nuke would be. They've said that we are getting more spells for sure with 2.0, I think maybe some before then, but chances are we'll be getting Water back sometime. There's also always the possibility we get it back with a level cap raise.

    It's because of the MND.

Honestly the best wand you can get as CNJ at the moment is a Wand of Tremors. VIT helps your Enhancing, you get the damage bonus on Stone as well.

Of course, Chiran Zabran's Tempest is the best CNJ weapon out there by far.

I guess I still see a lot o' Wand of Tides and also for sale.

Was hoping to see more Tremors or Gales for sale, in generals.

I agree that Chiran Tempest, if I could get my hands on that... ooooh yes!

Or enough melds to make >+40 healing wand. That would be nice (unlikely) too.

What is your main class/job? The only reason I have the staff is that my shell loaned it out to me, cause I can only play WHM really good. :x Otherwise I'd have a +16 healing pot wand of tides w/ a grid square shield

I nuke pretty often even while main healing on WHM (and more should, as long as the fight is going well and the party is perfectly fine), so I'm not too keen on Tempest. It also doesn't help that Magic Accuracy is the only thing that determines whether Repose lands or not, but that being an issue really depends on your group makeup. If you can manage to get a Wand of X with 2x Healer's Hand III or IV materia I'd use that over the Tempest.

    It's arguable, yeah.

I throw nukes out in between heals every once in a while, but usually only a Stone for the Magic Evasion down or an Aero for the DoT (though Aero's DoT is worthless on bosses) and of course Stonera and Aerora for groups of trash (and the dispel effect from Aerora, but it's not really needed right now). I tend to only do this when I'm absolutely certain that it's safe to though (like when Coincounter swings and falls) because one thing you must remember as a WHM is that you're primary goal is healing. Keep your party healthy.

A lot of the WHMs I run in to who have a tendency to nuke become too overzealous with it, saying "oh I can afford to throw a Stonera in after Stone before healing, they're fine." Which is a terrible, TERRIBLE habit to get into. Right now, sure you might be able to afford it. But you might not in later encounters. Even in some of the current encounters it's risky. Coincounter uses Glower and you're mid-cast for Stonera, tank gets hit, almost dead as is normal with Glower. You finish your cast and immediately go into Cura-Oh wait, tank's dead. Took too long. I've also run into situations on stuff like Miser where a WHM will be nuking instead of Esuna spamming the tank when they got hit by bad breath. Getting Blind and Paralyze off of that WAR is way more important than your nukes, they'll contribute more than you will by nuking.

Nuking as WHM isn't a bad thing, in fact I encourage it, as long as it's sparse and only when it's absolutely safe and MP efficient. For this reason, I greatly prefer Tempest over a double slotted wand. It'd have to be at least +35 Healing Magic Potency for me to consider it over Tempest. If you're playing WHM right, you're going to get a lot more use out of that Healing Magic Potency than you will from the Elemental Magic Potency.

Well of course I only nuke when its safe... When Coincounter falls down you can hit him pretty hard with an Aero combo. Nuking helps a lot to get the nails down in Ifrit before Hellfire, and you can help do damage if you are good with your timing. CNJ/WHM nuking has always been useful in the moogle fight too. I just hope more players keep in mind that the nukes are there, they are quite useful, and they are worth investing in, if only just a little bit. It's like your Benediction example in the other thread, people seem to discount it.

Agreed, the nukes are definitely useful and shouldn't be discounted. Still, the reason I responded to you was that I don't want other WHMs reading this thread and getting the idea that they should be nuking often, it should definitely be only when it's safe.
