Thread: (5.0 Spoilers) 14/14?

We already know that rejoining souls doesn't require rejoining of worlds, since our character is proof of that. All it requires is a drifting soul offering themselves to another reflection rather reincarnating on their shard.

For the WoL to reach 14/14 that would mean repeating ardbert's offering 5 more times. We most certainly won't go out hunting for them. The "Zenos will deal with that" argument could solve that, who would go out hunt the WoLs shards, killing them and bringing their souls to them, together with a big threat to encourage the offering. I don't think it'd be a good way for the plot to go tho, especially because Zenos has already been used way too much as a plot device.

I doubt it could happen due to not only do the inheritors of our other soul shards need to die but they also have to join with us rather than going to the lifestream with requires the other 5 beings to all somehow be allowed to shard travel or we do and I doubt there are 5 more people like the Crystal Exarch on each shard to pull us to them to prevent our own physical demise (ala Ardbert).

They've established that the calamities/rejoinings are spread apart because the Source needs time to recover between each lest they risk destroying the world entirely, so unless they find some convenient loophole I doubt a complete rejoining will ever take place.

I don't think this has been established as the reason. It's more likely that they wait between Rejoinings simply because it takes civilization that long to recover, that long before they're strong enough for the Ascians to manipulate them into another chaos-causing catastrophe.

The Ascians sure didn't wait long between the Seventh Calamity (Bahamut) and the Eighth (Black Rose) - just five years! However, the Seventh was such a baby Calamity that the Ascians' primary tool (the Garlean Empire) was still strong enough to cause another Calamity. So, there was no reason to wait.

It's plausible that they had to push the Eighth Calamity ahead because the First was so close to being swallowed by the Flood of Light. If they waited too long, they'd just have another useless Void like the Thirteenth.
