I gave up on KH after 3D. If you ignore all of the games except for 1, CoM, 2, and BbS, you have a complete-ish story there. Anything more than those is...unnecessary convolution.
Most of those were hinted at pretty quickly that they were not dead. So it's not a case of you thinking they're dead and then down the line they "surprised" you with them not being dead. And as long as there is an explanation that they didn't actually die, I see no problem with it, especially in a world of magic.I think Vahlnir meant "dead but not dead".
Like Nanamo, (Ilberd to some degree between 2.5 and 3.4/5), Gosetsu, Gaius, Yotsuyu, Zenos, Y'shtola (twice). And that's not counting Ascian possessing dead bodies and stuff.
I too think playing the "you think I was dead, but I was just waiting to conveniently slide in your DMs when the MSQ needs me too" gets annoying quite fast.
Also, Ascian possessing dead bodies are an established fact, so there is no point if they only possess bodies of people we don't know.

I watched a YouTube video summary of the entire story once, hoping it would help. Nope, just made things worse lol.

Itll be a hoot when we all come back to the source but half the scions are being bodysnatched by second tier asians we never knew existed and the world ends because we're like "sure I'll give you a hug" and we get stabbed threeveteen times to make sure we really die, before being bodysnatched after deaths uniting the world under the banner of New Ascia, formerly Garlemald.
Or rather, that's where the plot SHOULD go now that we know ascians can just reanimate replicas of bodies that were obliterated into bits, but it wont, because they'll forget how to do it by the next patch.
Hes trustworthy right up until the point you realize he never killed any asians, used emo dragoon to set up an alibi, and the masks he has are just a few sleepers hes carrying around to slap onto our friends Mask-style to carry out his true goals. Why the hell would I still be holding a Grudge against Gaius at this point

That's not really what the time bubble is for, though. It means we don't expect the calendar to move forward despite months (if not rightfully years) of time and activity between then and now. Our character has still been through everything inbetween. Two words for you my friend... Time. Bubble.
FFXIV's approach to timelines is wonky at best, but it's a hard rule that whatever point you are at in the MSQ, it's been 5 years since the Calamity [...] So technically it's been less than a year since we were trying our damnedest to kill each other.
I also felt my character was overly aggressive towards Gaius, both when we met earlier in 4.x and now. That's not to say she'd be rightfully extremely wary of him and his motives, but the outright threatening gestures seem out of character.
