I like Gerolt returning. It's kind of the... running gag? I think is the phrase. I just hope the weapons themselves have stories this time. The Eureka weapons didn't have stories. It was just the story of the island. I also hope they wont be tied to having a certain number of Eureka like actions cause I still don't have 30 of those stupid things and never did get a Eureka weapon. Not that it matter as they were ugly and had no story attached to them like the Zodiac and Anima weapons did.

As soon as I saw the back of that bald head during the msq my first thought was "oh no....." Before laughing.
I think there was unique dialogue for those who have completed relics?

They were husband and wife, and Gerolt loved Rowena dearly. But she's obsessed with ambition and was about to get herself killed. Gerolt decided to step in and did certain thing - the short version is he bankrupt Rowena but at the same time saved her life. This made them divorce, and Rowena set out to rebuild her fortune/ambition, it might have started out she got him on the hook to pay back what he made her lose but this is just Gerolt's excuse to stay by Rowena and support her dream while keeping an eyes on her. He still loved her despite no longer being her husband. Remember Gerolt had paid off his debt several times, and each time he always did something dumb to be indebt to her again. Do you think he's that stupid? And someone as smart Rowena probably realize his intention long ago and just play along.
Actually, from what I remember, it is a bit different from that. Yes, they were married, yes Gerolt did something to take all of Rowena's money to essentially save her life.
The reason Rowena was being targeted by assailants wasn't because she was too ambitious, but because she absconded with a bunch of loan money to go after Gerolt after he was kicked out of Ul'dah due to the machinations of his old master. Though they lived together for a while, Gerolt soon realized the truth, and then behind her back, ran off with the money to pay back the debtors before disappearing. Rowena then became a self-made women and began to search for Gerolt (whether for revenge or for love I don't know) By the time she found him again, he had become a a broken man bereft of love and zest for his art, a drunkard selling kettles in Hyrstmill, and she paid off HIS debt to try and inspire him to the passion he once held and that he shows time to time in the relic quests.

It already had a point: it's where you get your Job's weathered AF4 armour/weapon set from once you've done all the role quests for that Job's role (and was thus required to continue in ShB's storyline). As Liale mentioned, it has no connection whatsoever to the new relic quests as that will be connected with the Bozja Citadel which was in Ilsabard on the Source and is connected to the hrothgar as well as being in Garlean territory.

Bozja was infamously where Cid's father Midas nan Garlond under Nael van Darnus's direction first tested the Lunar Transmitter to control Dalamud in the late Sixth Astral Era, which only resulted in Dalamud blasting the entire city and it's inhabitants into molten slag - the GNB quests revealed that the hrothgar are trying to at least restore parts of it given it's their homeland.

Sounds interesting. Thank you for sharing this. Been taking a new alt though Eureka and about 50 crystals away from her WHM relic in Hydatos. A friend I'm doing it with on Crysal DC are planning on doing BA as well. Interestingly enough there seems to be a BA group in Hydatos every evening. I love relic and I just hope it'll be fun.

I feel similarly to TC. I get that it’s the “running gag” but it just doesn’t hit the same way recurring characters like Hildibrand do. More and more I find myself going “oh, it’s this guy again... let’s see what kind of miserable venture he’s being dragged into this time...”

Concerning in one of the ARR and HW relic steps he somehow boosted our weapon while fairly drunk has to show how good he is as I doubt anyone other than maybe the blacksmith guildmaster at the start of the ARR questline could make something of quality while drunker than a skunk.

Well, if manga has taught me anything, the Japanese love a good butt monkey.
