Could we get to choose which retainer we let go?

I've been paying for ff sub for a loong time but I have to have some cut backs but I still don't want to cancel the whole subscription. But I learned when you choose to pay for fewer retainers it cancels it for the latest one you hired. I would like to keep my gatherer retainers and let the DPS ones go buuut SE won't allow that. I thought I hired a dps retainer later but now my second used retainer is cancelled.... gotta pay the full sub again I guess?

Why can't we choose which ones to let go?

I believe you can chose which retainer is let go by changing their order in game. When the retainer service renews with less slots the Top of the list remains available and bottom becomes unavailable.

That's what I thought too but my 2nd retainer on the list got cancelled instead of the last one I was hoping for. So it really is about the newest retainer you've gotten. :/

I would love this option. I rarely need my Fisher retainer for long but I can't drop her because she's one of the two free ones. I'd have to re-level them which is incredibly tedious (or expensive). So this would be very welcomed.

Yeah, unfortunately, the 'order' is merely the in-game display; you'll see on the website if you go to your Retainers tab or use the mobile app, the retainers remain in the order they were hired.

Also, I'd like the option to retrieve materia in any order, leaving that slot empty to receive the next one melded.
