I will take a "break" when I completed the latest MSQ -- currrently at the Tempest -- and leveled all the jobs I'm currently still interested in. Should I then want to continue, I'll go with my first character through their remaining MSQ (she's currently at the end of post-HW) and level the 3 jobs I'm currently focusing on with her. I'm in no FC nor too inclined to join one. I'm also not too much into DoL/DoH. I also don't have any sort of interest in doing "hard" content; not my cup of tea nor am I willing to invest additional time into theory craft and memorizing rotations/openers. So yeah, personally I will have time for a break. Kudos to all who enjoy doing every form of content.

I've been subbed since launch. I've taken small breaks here and there. Up to a month, but without my sub lapsing.

I still find things to do in game, and when I get bored or another game comes out, I play those, logging into xiv for fc stuff or dailies occasionally. I don't really have any trouble keeping myself entertained in xiv though, there's tons of stuff to do, though I don't expect everyone to be interested in things like completing the crafting log achievements. I've slowly been working towards them on all my crafters.

The trick as previously mentioned is to not care about "missing out" on things. Developers of all genres of games use that psychological trick (see "sunk cost fallacy" for more details) to hook people into spending more time and money on their games. Learn to let things go and break free from this trap and you'll find you have all the time you need.

First of all you should not worry about leveling every job to 80, clearing raids or bosses, collecting tomestones, completing dailys or weeklys. It took a while for me to learn to stop stressing over my currencies and timers. I also only raid occansionally nowadays and quit my static during Heavensward because I felt like I was getting burnt out from the game. It is totally fine to take your time or to take some weeks off the game. You won't miss out on much.

I take a break every now and then so I can play other games. I don't really care about high end raiding these days since it takes too much effort and investment for what it is. Simply finding a group to do it with on a consistent basis is difficult - let alone when accounting for the risk of poaching, drama and vastly differing skill levels.

I like collecting things such as mounts, glamour and minions but some weeks I just won't bother doing roulettes or capping tomes.

I play for the story - I have multiple characters because I like the story line and want to experience it again and again.... I'm not much for raiding, but I used to think oh, I have to do my dailies.... until at one point it was all I was doing, logging in to do my dailies. Then I took a break for around 6 months and thought I would never be back, but I missed the story and my Lalafell's so I re-subbed and have been enjoying the game again. I've stopped worrying about dailies and just enjoy the game, levelling up classes/characters and considering actually starting crafting at some point as I've heard tell that it's easier now with the thing that's in Foundation (forget the name). I don't do raids, I used to when I was younger, but I found raiding to be too stressful and what with an social anxiety disorder and continued IRL stresses I much prefer to give the raiding scene a miss. Funnily enough, I don't even miss raiding like I thought I would!
