How different do you think the Au Ra and their lore would be, if they were draconic?

Shrug. I wouldn't care much, they already look pretty draconic. I don't think their current lore would have to be that different either. There isn't much that would contradict a draconic ancestry.

If anything I would've prefered the more demonic looks in the old dev sketches.

I think it would be a bad idea. Not because it would ruin the lore or anything, but because I've got enough of that in my tabletop games and don't want it in my online games. If I have to hear "I am [insert name], PROGENY OF DRAGONS" or any of its derivatives one more time, I'm going to puke.

The fact that Au Ra are on the First means that they existed before dragons ever showed up, which means they’re not related to dragons. They’re not necessarily from the far-east either considering the drahn are from alternate-Coerthas.

In any case, I always considered Au Ra (at least Raen ones) as descended from that ancient lineage... correct or not, I like to imagine it that way

Their physiology suits the sea (can’t get water in your ears if you don’t have ears), but only 1 town of raen exists underwater and the vast majority of raen we meet aren’t descended from them since that group split off from everyone else rather than the other way around.

That said, that whole quest line is my favorite in Stormblood and I like the real-life mythology, so in the rare times I’m fantasia’d into an au ra, I head-canon that she’s from there.

I always feel they missed a trick with having just one small underwater town.

Hingashi would have been so much cooler if it was mostly in those underwater bubble domes with just a few little islands jutting up. Neatly explains why the Garleans don't really bother with them too, airships aren't much use underwater.

Plus we could have had underwater weebtown housing.

Not gonna lie, I do like how this points out the hilarious sexual dimorphism of au ra and how you can have two different gendered dragons next to each other and you'd never know what each was until they specified for you because you'd never get it from their appearance or voice.

If they kept closer to the concept art, I think it wouldve been a greater benefit to teh game frankly. AuRa have alot of cool things going for them, but the concept art was definitely cooler and slick.
