    Switch to Steam

So, a friend who owns the game on steam was talking to me about getting the expansions since they just got finished with ARR's story, and it got me thinking... I had a real helluva time with the square enix store getting Shadowbringers. I was able to preorder, but the SQEX store repeatedly refused to ever take my money for the actual game (i even tried just buying it again but it wouldn't let me.. but yet they take my money every month for subscription)... I was eventually saved by my SO who bought me the game using their account.

So, my question is this... I've never had a problem with Steam taking my money and giving me a product. Would it be in my best interest to take advantage of the steam sale and get the items on Steam so i can have an easier time buying future expansions? Would i still be able to log in under this account if i did all that?
(Yes, i'm aware the steam platform isn't always the best and can interfere with possible stability of XIV, but let's ignore that for now.)

You can't mix Steam expansions with the non-Steam Windows base game. You would need to new account.

Ah, so if i did get the steam versions, i would lose access to the characters i currently have? (If i used that route to login)
If that's the case, then that cinches it as a non-option for me. I can only hope SQEX actually wants to take my money the next time around, i suppose.

Actually, maybe i misunderstood.. I wasn't thinking of buying just the expansions. I was meaning that i would rebuy the base game on steam, and all expansions and then log in using my current username.

The answer doesn't change. The regular Windows and Steam versions cannot co-exist on the same service account. Period. You would have to create a new service account or even a new Square Enix ID just to register it and pay a whole separate sub just for it, if I remember correctly.

It's a major part of the reason why everyone panicked when they implemented the client check depending on what license you had (Steam client for Steam license, Windows client for Windows license).

It's creating a brand new account as AkaeiNox said. The steam and pc licenses are exclusive, you can only have one or the other on the account and they cannot be swapped. If you're having issues buying the expansions directly from SE, why not just use a 3rd party like amazon, greenmangaming, bestbuy, gamestop, etc?
