If they don't want to have an English translator during the Live Letter, that's fine. But these live letters are always heavily scripted with everything carefully planned out. There's no reason why they can't post a translation to the forums immediately afterwards instead of waiting days or even weeks before we get a translation on the NA forums.

I guess you missed the part of the stream where Foxclonn was dressed as a Sin Eater and Yoshi couldn't talk for like 20 seconds because he was stunned and laughing. Excellent script and acting there. Or, like in almost every LL, they will go back a slide because they forgot to mention something.

Not a big deal to me. But why couldn't they have a video prepared in English to post on youtube or something at the same time? Does anyone believe they were finalizing this info hours before it went live. Have a scroll or link on bottom to video. It could literally be slides and screenshots with voice over. Or better yet then voice over just subtitles in the supported languages. Don't even need to have anyone talk. We don't need to see the worshiped dev team to get the info. Japanese get their variety show and other communities get the info in a timely accurate manor.

IMO it's not really about being translated directly when they are just chatting. But they know what they are going to cover well in advance so it would be amazing if they could have something to release that gave us more detail than just bullet points. It doesn't need to be a direct translation but at least give us a little more information. A more direct translation, that includes the additional information not listed can be released at a later date then.

But also, they stopped nearly all communication here on the forums too. We only get responses to technical questions, bugs and mistranslations while they used to comment and respond to us multiple times a day. So it's clear they have no time for non-jp speaking players. Not only that but SE has this odd wall of silence thing going. I know Yoshida thinks he messed up terribly by telling us things that could not be implemented prior to ARR, but where he messed up is by not addressing the fact they couldn't do something and instead ignored any question or comment of anything related. It's 2020, transparency is important when you are a game developer.

Honestly the less they talk to us, the less I trust anything they say. If they cannot do something, that's fine, development is like that sometimes, but explain your decisions and then tell us something else. As long as the majority of what you say comes to fruition in some way, its cool.

I used to be a huge HUGE fan of Yoshida, but at this point I think we could do with a fresh perspective and more people skills in the big chair.

There used to be a lot more engagement here on the forums back in the early days when the game was still finding its feet and seeking to secure good will from players who decided to give the game another chance. Sadly over the time it feels as though there has been a decrease in the amount of direct engagement that we see - and when we do get a response to something, it's usually to quell outrage even as constructive and in-depth feedback is completely overlooked.

PvP in particular receives even less attention and acknowledgement than the other aspects of the game. I'd like to see this entire site revamped and become the primary source of official information for the game. A lot of people do not use Youtube or Twitter, especially in the wake of controversial censorship and privacy concerns.

I wonder if the reason we don't see much from the community representatives is due to their hands being tied. There appears to be a fairly high turnover - a number of our representatives have departed from the role. Some informed us directly, others did not. That's just speculation, though. I obviously cannot say as much for certain!

It would be nice if community teams for the other regions could do a stream going over the new content with in a day or three. It doesn't need to be a direct one for one direct translation, just a condensed and swifter version of the recap they do sometimes on Duty Commenced. I've heard that Dissidia Opera Omnia has a team that does english live streams fairly frequently, it seems odd that FFXIV doesn't have something closer to that type interaction with the community team.

That said I would like to point out that translation and (simultaneous) interpretation are actually different skill sets. One is for the written word and one is for spoken. While there are obviously some people like Koji on the FFXIV team who can do both well it is probably not as simple as grabbing anyone form the translation team and getting them to do it. Recap a few days later would give them time needed or they could just forward the basic info and let the english team go over it with the slides in a simultaneous stream.

I remember in a thread about English translation someone was upset about it, said the same thing as you but that person was from europe.

Well tbh, most people who make these sort of comments are Americans. Usually just ones who think Japan can do no wrong, anything coming from Japan is sacred and think the JP community is this utopia of cooperation, friendship and love. You know the ones I am talkin about.... lol
