They do more DPS if you take your time. They’re designed to get you through the dungeon at about the same time no matter what you do save for wiping.

While I understand the desire for them to do more, I can also see why they were made the way they are now.
I did some experimenting in Holminster Switch.
First run was me as SMN with Thancred, Ryne and Urianger. Forcing double pulls on Thancred and Co. That was at least partially fun. I did 51% of total damage.
I did some runs as GNB and took the other 3. I was consisently outdpsing Y'shtola and Alisae on bosses, i.e. single targets. That's just wrong. One of the reasons, is that Trusts completely stop doing any damage to do mechanics, but whatevs.
