Problem updating game to 5.1 [11006][20641][20643]

    Hi guys!

So patch hits and I am very excited, however when I went to patch my client, I was hit with an error telling me to restart the client and try the download again (I didn't catch the error ID). This happened a few times in a row, at approx. 3% into the download/installation. Then I had the genius idea to uninstall the game and download it all from scratch in the hopes that it would fix the problem. It doesn't. It gets to about 3% through the download and throws up the following error: "A problem occurred while updating. Please restart FINAL FANTASY XIV. [11006][20641][20643]"

It's installed on my SSD with plenty of space to spare and I have no issues with the SSD itself. It's also (as I said) showing the error at the same progress point first in the patch download and then in the entire client download. I'm at a loss here, and almost definitely gonna miss out on the end of the Halloween event

Any help past "try reinstalling, defragging" etc would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear that you can't play either but it's reassuring to know that it's not just my PC being crap.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

What you are describing is a connectivity issue between your home network and the game server. We can provide some troubleshooting to help stabilize your home network. This might help if the issue stems from there:

    1) If you are connecting to your router using a wireless connection, try connecting using an Ethernet cable.

    2) Try resetting your router by turning it off, then back on after a few minutes.

    3) Make sure your anti-virus has the proper exceptions for Final Fantasy XIV. This includes the install folder and the locally-saved data folder (located My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV).

    4) Check the following Port Ranges on your router/modem to ensure that they have been opened:
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040
Your ISP can open these ports for you.

    5) Try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

    6) The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

It kinda of fixed it for me, but now I'm getting a different error which seems to have been fixed by using a VPN to patch the client. I will let you know in about an hour or so as to whether or not my client finished downloading, but so far I've had no errors.

So yeah, activating a VPN let me complete the download. Nothing the mod suggested helped, it took a bit of googling and trawling through reddit to find some more suggestions.
