I used to be able to switch between English and Japanese input using the standard Windows hotkeys. Now, while the hotkey works in every other application, it does not work in FFXIV. Why?

Good afternoon and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
To change the language in Final Fantasy XIV, you would need to do it on the game launcher.
Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV technical Support Forums.
Is that to say, the ability to type in languages other than the current one has been blocked?
Prior, you could use the Windows hotkey, Left Alt + Shift, to switch IME input between English and Japanese, regardless of the client language. I assume you could do this with other languages. Now, that key combination does nothing when used in-game.

Another reason is: I joined a multilingual fellowship, and to be required to log out of the game, switch languages, and log back in, in order to talk with these people in different languages... it feels like it takes a lot away from the Fellowship system.
I keep the IME on at all times and just use Alt+Shift to swap between romanji and kana inputs.
Works in the game and no need to restart.
But I'm also able to turn the IME itself on and off without causing an issue in the game. The only difficulty for me is the keybind as I don't have a Windows Key lol, thanks IBM...

May I ask what version of Windows you're running? You can find this information by searching for winver in the search bar. It will say "Run Command". I just want to know the OS Build.
Looks like this:![]()
It hasn't been an issue though multiple w10 updates.

It used to work for me as well. I recently installed a cumulative update for 1903. That may have broken it. I'm going to attempt to uninstall the update and see if that restores the ability to toggle between IME input languages.
Update is KB4522355, if anyone is curious.

Ok, Cumulative update KB4522355 broke the ability to switch between input languages, in-game, for myself.
Current Windows Version:
IME input switching now works:
I didn't notice any changes related to hotkeys or language in the KB website. However, after uninstalling the update, it works normally. For reference: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...date-kb4522355.
