I don't want to transfer, so WHY are you forcing me to?

I thought 1.21 would be a good time to check-in on FFXIV, what with jobs being released and all. I played FFXI for years, and was curious to see how they are progressing towards 2.0. I had been casually keeping tabs on whats going on, and I remember the server merger information being posted to twitter. Naturally, that's the first place I went when reactivating my account.. and was even present with a splash to do so.

My goal here was to make sure I remained on the SAME server with all my friends, and I figure this is the path I have to take. I try to set up a transfer to Durandal, which I now realize is the default server I would have been put on had I taken no action. Regardless, it tells me its full... which is not the problem.

The problem is: now I'm being defaulted to Ragnarok. Because apparently, since its the only server that isn't "full", you thought it would be a good idea to throw me there. On the official European server. Without my blessing. I contacted support through email, and they tell me theres no way to reverse this even though the merger hasn't taken place yet.

WHAT? I contact you a week in advance before anything has happened yet, and there's nothing you can do to stop the process? I never selected Ragnarok, and nowhere on the transfer information does it say that action is not required. Quite frankly I'm furious. I understand that technically it was my misunderstanding that put me in this predicament, but what kind of retarded system defaults a player to a server they didn't chose? Why would my default option not remain WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN? It's unacceptable, and quite frankly mind-boggling coming from a company/game attempting to rebuild it's reputation.

If this goes through, you have lost a customer for 2.0.

You're not the first I'm hearing of that is having this problem.

SE dropped the ball really hard with the server transfers and mergers.

Like everything else with FFXIV: it's archaic and done with spaghetti code. Pretty absurd situation. Mis-clicking is one thing, but being defaulted to a server that you didn't even chose while trying to remain on your own server? And there's nothing they can do?

Pretty pathetic for a company desperately trying to gain support for its completely botched game. Hopefully they can help you because they need every customer they can get.

From what I understand, the correct response (according to them) would be -- "DEFAULT MERGED WORLD." However, they still give you the option to pick the default merged world (by name), setting you as priority BELOW all of your 'default merged world' friends. I'm assuming you accidentally picked it by name instead of simply 'default merged world'. By clicking that option, you accidentally forced yourself to give up your 'right' to stay put. It's too bad they didn't implement some sort of clause in the code to realize if you picked the same server as your 'default' one and adjust permissions accordingly. A few people have had this issue, and if more do, they're going to have to take action.

Although you REALLY can get away with doing nothing, I didn't know this until after I had 'applied'. I picked 'default' and have not had any issues (as far as I know).

If your on a world being merged and your ok with that world then the actions you need to do are.. none at all. There are thousands of people out there that took that route and did nothing at all and had no problems. Sorry if you didn't understand..

I'll admit that that's pretty messed up... :\ Though all the more reason to make sure you read instructions carefully before taking any action... Especially with something as sensitive as world transfers. Would've prevented the whole ordeal to begin with.

I just read the instructions, and nowhere in there does it say that no action can be taken. And nowhere does it say if you chose a full server the first time, you'll be randomly selected to another server.

While this is certainly a case of user error, it's a bigger case of developer incompetence.
