Perhaps a silly question, but for troubleshooting's sake, have you tried Duty Finder as well? Also some more information to provide that might help find players:
What server are you on?
Do you have a free company joining you, or are you doing them solo?
What is your job/level?
Yikes, don't suggest the Duty Finder. They'll just wait a long time, then eventually wind up with Mentors mad they're in an EX duty and bail immediately, or if they're lucky, bail after a couple wipes.
I suspect the simple answer here is that... everyone's kind-of busy exploring the new expansion at the moment, so the number of people who want to spend extra time doing something synced for zero benefit is very small (I mean, it's always small, but right now it's even smaller).
Your best bet is to find a linkshell and/or free company with like-minded players, but how you go about finding such a group, I don't know.
Personally, I'd worry about getting a job to max level before wasting time doing synced stuff, but to each their own. If you just want some challenging content, then get to max level and do the current EX stuff.

Even before the expansion was the same![]()
The problem is that no one wants to burn themselves out right before an expansion, so a lot of experienced players take a vacation from the game so they can enter it fresh. Unfortunately, now that ShB is out, the time when experienced players would want to do the old EX trials synch'd won't be coming until probably a month after the 8-man raid is released. Instead of fruitlessly wasting time, I would recommend continuing with the MSQ and returning to try and do these trials when you might find a party for it.
Extreme primals are not easy. It takes time to practice and learn the fight. As a result you're highly unlikely to find people willing to do older extremes synced because that is a LOT of work for something that doesn't even help gear you up.
I don't know about the HW and SB ones, but I went through half a dozen of the ARR extreme trials just before the expansion went live and didn't have any trouble finding parties.
Nor did there seem to be any pre-expansion lull in activity this time. Quite the opposite, in the last few weeks preceding ShB's release, Coeurl at least was busier than I'd ever seen it, and judging by the speed of DF queues and how many PF listings there were, I'm guessing it must have been similar across the rest of Crystal. It seems like more people were trying to finish stuff before the expansion than were taking time off before the expansion.
(I'm not even attempting to do the last couple ARR extremes now, though. I'll wait until the endgame players have had time to explore the new expansion before going back to those. In the meantime, I've got new alt characters to play with.)
