Why is burst so.... unimpressive?

On Chimera, Thundara crit = same damage as burst crit, even when I had 47 hp. Other than the low mana cost, this skill is pretty lame

I was very much so unimpressed but as with all other skills from Blm other than Freeze, which is really nice.
Only thing I can see it being worth the 15 minutes was if it gave you MP instead of costing.

I've used flare before to wipe rooms of lower mobs, but it seems like I could get off a fire->fira combo during the cast time. The only advantage is that I can position myself to hit more mobs.

Freeze is wonderful.

I've already begun using sleepga regularly.

I've used burst twice. Once to do meh damage to Ogre despite being at 158 HP, and once just because I enjoy watching furry animals die. Does this really deserve "15M" status? I think not..

I don't think Burst is unimpressive, I think the problem is that it should NOT be the Black Mage 15 minute ability. Every other job has a powerful 15 minute ability that will change the course of a fight when used (except maybe DRG, but at least that one is powerful and AoE). Burst is basically just a combo finisher.

I could have seen Flare being the 15 minute ability if it received a damage boost, but Burst? Doesn't fit at all. I wonder why they didn't go with something like Manafont instead of Convert and make that the 15 minute ability.

At most I think Burst should be a 2 or 3 minute cool down ability.

Mildly unimpressed. I've done 3k dmg w/ it on Ant Marshall w/ aga only doing 1.7k. For 15m recast though it's very =( .

Perhaps this is very situational... not meant to be used whenever, but only when the times are dire indeed.

Into the firey pits a band of adventurers go, seeking more fame and fortune from fighting the Mighty Iffy. But Iffy is wise to their ways, and as his HP approaches zero, he unleashes with cracks on all the WHMs. They run for cover while he focuses and defeats the PLD.

Everyone knows this is bad... very bad... but with Iffy down to just a small amount of HP, perhaps the battle can still be won. A quick burst of maximum damage from all the BLMs, and even Holy from the WHMs, in one massive glorious magical explosion, and Ifrit is brought to his knees, yielding great fortunes of dark matter for all.

Or when you're bored around Ul'dah.
