    Evolution of Crafting: Crafting "Signatures"

This is just one of a few ideas I came up with to take crafting to what I believe to be the natural evolution from where it is today. With the addition of HQ housing items having your signature, I figured it would be pretty neat if could apply your "signature" to other items you craft. For consumables, this could take the form of a custom activation animation that you create or choose from a large list of. That way when you see people activating consumables, you can look out for your signature and know that they are using something created by you.

For things like gear and weapons, I think it would also be neat if people wearing/carrying gear made by you would have their names displayed in a different color or have an icon next to them that lets you know they own a piece of gear created by you.

    Thoughts?

I honestly think I could live without this. I rarely sit around and watch people use consumables anyway.

Housing items also can't be HQ, so I don't know what you mean by that.

You can already see that you crafted a specific item when you look at it on the marketboard. For example, if someone buys a piece of armor that you made, and you happen to examine that person, you will see your armor with your character's name as the one who crafted it.

I always thought it would be a nice touch if we could "stamp" our items with a seal, kind of like how Ironworks does, something akin to free company crests that players could enable or disable if they wanted to.

"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

If you craft a housing item with 100% quality, it will have your name in the tooltip. That's what I mean by "HQing" it.

Not at all. It honestly seems to me like a natural evolution of the crafting system. It already has enough depth/content for people to basically play the entire game as nothing but a crafter. It just seems like the next step would be to allow you to see the impact your work has on the world by letting you brand your "signature" on your crafts and give you some kind of way to know how many people your work is reaching. This suggestion is just a way I think SE can add even more depth, meaning, and personalization to the system.

Honestly I've never even looked at that spot on the gear description to see who crafted it.

Conversely, I've had someone contact me out of the blue to thank me for crafting the first item they bought on the MB when they transferred to my server (it was the healer's staff that looks like a blooming flower).

Me either. Which is why I think there should be a more prominent way to apply your "signature" to your crafts. Such as an activation animation for consumables or people who own your gear having their name displayed differently to you or with an icon next to it.

It will appear with your name in the tooltip no matter how much quality you put into it. It's only based on who made the item, not any other factors.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

This isn't necessary (ie. useless) and dev time can be used more effectively elsewhere. Like putting the rest of the races' mannequins or fixing Pagos. But to explain myself, signatures don't matter because in the end, no one is going to care if they're not looking at that spot on the tooltip. On top of that, adding a signature animation, if you notice with using buff food, it will either use it with the 'eating' animation, or the 'potion' animation, and for most people, unless they're crafting/gathering, they are more likely to see the 'potion' animation.

IMO the next so-called 'evolution' of crafting should be based on a gameplay aspect and not a customization aspect, such as changing consumable animations (how do you even intend to apply this customization to non-consumables? They already have signatures regardless of NQ or HQ, same with housing items). This doesn't feel very well thought out. Personally, I'd like to see a rehaul of the Specialist system or an erasure of it and a return to ARR-style crafting. Crafting doesn't need to evolve, it just needs to get better... and certain things pre-HW were better.
