Patch Downloads Are Slow On PS4 now.

When it was hooked up to the launcher, a small patch downloaded almost immediately.

Now it’s been ten minutes, and it’s at 31%.

Keep in mind I have high speed Internet, and my modem is connected directly to my PlayStation 4 through an Ethernet cable.

I’m scared to think about what might happen with the download times after a major patch, or new expansion launch. Granted an expansion launch wouldn’t be as bad, because for the first day you usually can’t even get in, or do much. I’ve been through two launches so far, and learned not to expect to play the first day.

Anyway, I just want to know what the big deal with these load times is, and how they could potentially be fixed. I miss the old load times.

The PS4 does throttle download speeds. My laptop i get better download speeds.
Trust me the change is way better then using that awful launcher/updater which if you had to re-install the game you had to download all patches and it was very problematic.
I had lost a full month of sub time because i kept getting unable to patch errors (as many others did both on PS4 and PC and SE never fixed that issue)

What takes the longest and this is other PS4 games as well is loading the data once it is downloaded

It's better than the alternative. Before, if you had a power outage while changing areas or if the server was 'saving', you'd lose everything. Have to spend way longer than that downloading all the patches than how it is now. Just do something else while waiting, which you can actually do now since you don't have to sit in the app. Pull up a single player offline game and play through it while it's downloading, or just leave your PS4 in rest mode while asleep, the patch should automatically download and install itself.

it seems to be all games with ps4 not just ffxiv i also get slow copying speeds on destiny 2 and monster hunter world

I had this failure multiple times and had to redownload the whole game at least twice a month. I was talking with the technical support and they said it was because of power outage, or it could be the harddrive, or I had to change the network settings on my PS4... nothing worked, and I didn't had power outages. I was properly shutting off the game and the console.

However, then I heared from other players that they have the same issue, and suddenly the support said they already had plans all the time that they want to change the update process to the PS4 standard to fix that problem.

So no idea what caused the deletion, the support wasn't willing to let me know what the problem was, instead they told me the problem was on my side and made wild assumptions. One time they even admitted that the thing they told me has nothing to do with the problem, but I should just keep trying... yeah...


I am very glad they changed the system. No more redownloading the whole game (I hope) and thanks to auto-updates in rest mode, everything is ready when I start the console.

Only thing I dislike is that i needed 37 GB of free space for that 100 MB update yesterday. However, with the old system the game was twice as big, so I guess we are at + / - 0 here.

This is what I do on patch night. I put PS4 on sleep mode and it downloads overnight, so I'm ready to play once I get home after work.

After I read that the downloads are so slow now I turned on by boyfriend's PS4 to download the patch for him. Which took like 30 minutes or so. While on PC it took me 1 minute. I guess it doesn't matter for patches that you can download early anyway, but for small patches like the last one you have to turn on the PS4 as soon as it's downloadable if you want to play as soon as the servers are up...
