Game FPS drops

Hello!

As the title states.. my game drops in FPS quite a lot. Usually I had no problem with that, but I kept not much track on how and when it occured. Maybe a month ago. I tried most of the things shown on other threads, with no good outcome.

Today I cleaned most of my pc, thinking maybe it has some issues with any program, anything that is damaging my performance. After that, it actually worked fine, my FPs started at 100. They dopped to 50, so I activated V-Sync. Then it stayed on 59 all the time. Until 2 hours later, a suddenl FPS drop just started again and brought me back to my common 30-45 FPS. Anywhere. Dungeon or City. With people or none.

With one of the new dungeons, Alphascape v1 to be exact, it even went so far that its actually unplayable for me. Leaving me with constant 15FPS the entire dungeon long.

As I said, I tried a lot, updated my driver, cleaned my computer from dangerous files, set my graphic setting to low. It didnt work. And it leaves me here questioning what else to do.

I am close to reinstalling my entire windows, I'd do good for my computer, for sure. But It actually would be my last solution I'd take due to all the things I have on my computer I wish to keep rather than get rid off.

If there is any possibility for help, it would be more than appreciated!

When did this start happening? Do you recall anything updating/changing on your PC that coincides with this?

Is it possible that your PC (or just a component of it) is overheating? Do you have a way to monitor that?

Is any part of your PC overclocked?

Additionally, can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Hello!

I am not completely sure when it started happening. I do recall it being somewhat of a struggle for the past 2 months maybe. Before that, everything went fine and I had no issue with my FPS. Sometimes Windows updated, but I don't know if that might have been cause of anything.

Is there a way of Monitoring if my Computer may be overheating? If so, I wish to know. That might be a cause of it, since my computer usually struggles with warm weather plus being on for a while. Yet that was never much of a problem as well before, even with this heat here for a while, there was no problem. Yet maybe it was and suffered through it.

I cannot do much with the term "overclocked" ... As far as I read about it, it doesnt seem like it.

Usually when I play, and start the game my FPs are smooth for a little. Sometimes a little longer. Then when the drop comes, I can tab outo of the game and tab in again and my FPS arefine for a little again. And so on, yet I cant always do that in Instances. Nor did it seem to work much in there.

I even redid my entire Windows the past night, and even now.. I still get those FPs drops. I went into Alphascape v1 before, and it went smooth for maybe half the fight, but then I dropped down to 20FPS.

Newer windows 10 builds (anything after creators update) have been notoriously full of known issues with the slightly older video cards and frame rates.

You might want to try installing the 382.05 drivers for nvidia I know a lot of people who have had success with that. You will lose the geforce overlay (i dunno if thats important to you) but a lot of people on various communities (reddit / steam and other game communities) have reported a significant improvement in gaming performance using the 382.05 drivers. just be sure to disable automatic updates in the geforce experience.

the other option is generally go back to an earlier windows build such as 1509 and disable windows update. lot more hassle though.

I really hope I can fix it.. I wish to buy me a newer card and a cooler as well, but I really have no money for it for now. Plus usually it worked even with what I have now.

So I really really hope I can get it fixed.. Otherwise it really is unplayable for me.

So I can give you an update now.

With a small sturggle to get my update the version you told me to do, I managed it.
And for now, even after running alphascape v2 i had none FPS drops. Of course with Direct X9 and low laptopt graphics in FF. But that doesnt matter, I would take stable and smooth frames over graphics any day!

It works for now really well! I just hope it stays since the last time I was thining it worked, was for 2 hours and then the drops kicked in.

I hope that was able to resolve the issue for you. Can you clarify what you did? Did you revert your graphics drivers to 382.05 and used DirectX 9 mode, or did you try something else?

Hey!

I am thankful for the help as well, and that you both took the time to answer me!

I did exactly what he told me to do, I deleted my graphics drivers, which were the newest out. And installed the version 382.05. Then I run the game with DirectX 9, which worked perfectly fine. Surely I still had drops at Alphascape v1, but that happens with a lot of people, plus they werent massive anymore. So it was playable.

Now I am currently trying it with DirectX 11 again, wish to see if it still works, if not then I can confirm that it works with DirectX 9. After running Alphascape v1 though, my FPS have a little struggle to get back into normal, so I jus ttab out and tab in again, which fixed it again. And thus it stays at confortable 60FPS then.

Quick update!

DirectX 11 wont work. It instantly gave me FPS drops again. So With DirectX 9 it works perfectly!

I'm glad you were able to resolve your issue. DirectX 11 may be having issues with your older graphics card and driver version, but DirectX 9 seems to be working for you.
