I have not played 1.0, & to this day I prefer xi to xiv & I dont think that in any way anemos or pagos is remotely anything close to be like 11 & I still play it so its not tough for me to compare. Also when players like bourne say that xi was a mess with jobs back in the days when 2 lvl max range partys were a thing,it makes me sad because this makes me feel like most players that hate on the original system really have no idea on how it would/should have been played back then. I used to host all my groups & i have done legit x2 thfs "(rogues…)" 6 man partys *thfs for tanks, it just required an initial provoker then it was sata ws\sub nin shadows\thf evasion enmity generation to second thf sata onto first thief & there was the tanking (legit no true tanking job) & THAT was awesome. To this day xi have a thousand more reasons to be a better game over xiv BUT ANYWAY back onto topic. I will say this, as I said before I did not play xiv at start with 1.0 & while a glamour earring from it sound nice, I think it should be a replica & even then, I think a replica should not even exist, so in other words, let alone the original earring with the original players. As someone said before several times, if you did not do the fight, why should you\we get it? Sure more lore is nice but again earring does not have to be handed out to add more game story\explanations. By that post Yoruichi4478 did, I am inclined to say that to me, it look like XIV probably was a lot more fun back then before they changed it. I do feel like I would have enjoyed trying it back then ^^ but I have not. I support your sadness "REAL" white raven earring owners.
P.S: You sure told Theodric Yoruichi!![]()

So...go play XI? Last I checked, the servers are still up and running. I'm not really sure why some people continue to play FFXIV if they dislike it so much.
Can you give me an example of someone using that argument? Consider me intrigued.
I'm a firm believer in people voting with their wallets if they feel that a particular company has done them a disservice not just because it sends the company a message but because it's excellent for the individual's health and well being. There are countless games out there that people could be playing. Both in terms of single player games and multiplayer games. Not everybody is going to enjoy FFXIV and that's perfectly fine.
You're twisting my words ^^'
I said that among all the things (so many) that made that fight difficult, there was also the ping, but no server issues.
As for the mechanics, longer than Ultimate, requiring perfect execution as well, no telegraph, no cast bar, vertical arena, special items needed, party combos, mechanics not as complex as Ultimate yeah, but the thing is that you had to do them without all the help we get from the game today, and that changes everything.
I think lots of people here don't quite realise how challenging it was when you take everything into account, and why it's such a trophy we care about considering how much of our lives we put in it.
Like I mentioned, I cleared it as well as both Ultimate, and the one that took me the most time and investment was Rivenroad (Hard) by far, about 5 month, because of all the requirements when you're going there serious enough.
Allow me to explain, when you decide you want to clear Ultimate, you're not going to try that as a tourist, with bad gear, bad items, bad preparation, etc. it would not work, it would not be serious, you would jeopardise your group, everyone knows that.
But the preparation for Ultimate, the BiS gear up, the food and potions, they don't take a lot of time, they don't take much resources.
Lots of people complain on this forum since 2.0 about the fast obsolescence of gear, about the fact that when you get the best gear, there's no content to use it, etc.
In 1.0 that was the opposite. And therefore, if you wanted to try seriously Rivenroad (Hard), if you wanted to get invited in a group serious enough, you would not go there as a tourist. And that means you needed your Darklight set, your relic, crazy melds where back then, a meld failing and you were loosing everything, including your piece of gear!
Getting a full Darklight set was both long and quite difficult, you had dungeons way more dangerous than the today's ones, 8 man, taking about 40 min to clear, but if you wanted to have the secret chest at the end that could contain a piece of Darklight (~8% chance), you had to clear the Dungeon within 18 min!!! A crazy speed run demanding a perfect execution and strategy, requiring the party to change jobs multiple times inside the dungeon (because that was a thing). A single mistake, and the speed run was over, and you had a 30 minutes lock out on the dungeon.
Continued in Part. 2
Part. 2
Getting a relic was just an insane task, requiring not only a gigantic amount of time, steps and money/resources, but to be skilled, as it was locked behind 2 of the 3 hardest fights of 1.0. Since 2.0, the relics are just a grind, in 1.0 it was locked behind the hardest fights.
What people need to realise here, is that while there's around ~0.04% of FFXIV players that cleared Ultimate (it's not 1%, not even 0.1%), it was something similar with the last stage of relic and Rivenroad (Hard), it's a tiny % of 1.0 players who won them.
Those White Ravens, it's not about an exclusivity, it's about a trophy unlikely to occur more than once.
I won a Cinéma trophy in my career, Tennis tournaments trophies, and they're all equal to me, they took the same investment and passion, and I kept all along the eyes on the prize. And now the prize of one is handed out, not even as a replica.
Something like this, in those conditions of a game on a countdown before shutting down, it's one of a kind.
That's why it grieves those who sacrificed that much to get them, it's sad and underwhelming. People lampooning it is regrettable.
Replicas would have been a smarter choice.

Considering it's not even possible to get the earrings through the original method anymore it really shouldn't matter if they are replicas now or not. A replica in the current incarnation of FFXIV only happens if there is a method in-game to obtain original items (non-replicas), such as working on a relic and having the choice to purchase previous stages or the replica Makai gear available in Gold Saucer. In the end the earrings are a defunct item from a game (or version of a game) that no longer exists. If it was still going then it would be a different story, but it's not. For SE to even bring them back should be seen as an honour rather than a travesty.
I am not talking about a fix now (I gave up hope that housing will ever be a good and fair system.), I was talking about them seeing beforehand that private houses in wards could just end in failure and lots of angry people. Just take the amount that sub to the game and see how many wards you can realistically do and they should have noticed that it was never enough..heck if every single FC that exist wanted a house they would have probably not have enough wards. Thus they should have taken more time and completely created a instanced system for private houses. These houses would only exist when you are there, unlike the wards that are alway active. They could have put a story line behind private housing, could have started people will small ones and let them grow their houses. Heck with instanced houses people might have been able to own a house in every single zone.
But they decided to somehow throw FC and Privates in the same wards even when they said that they were different and then let us pay the same price even though they said that this would not cost the same (and with less features too) and then later implement a timer when "suddenly" everything was way too limited. All of those broken words for a decision that people should have seen coming..
The same with the earring: Do a lot people exist that have them? Probably not. But why was it necessary to go against their own words and risk the anger of those people if they could have simply made those replicas and/or put them behind the next ultimate or something..
I just sometimes really dont understand the devs.
@Topic: If people are fine that something that was hard earned in another version of the game is now part of an easy event then I hope that those people would also be fine if SE decides to give Ultimate fights the option to do it unsynch. Because it would not matter right and its interesting that some people are quite protective of their raiding (like not giving non-raiders the option to get equal good gear through other means, or letting Ultimate stay synched) but are fine with this. [Just to be sure, I am only talking about those that say no to one part and yes to the other]
Yes the 1.0 are gone thus why should the items come back? Honestly I have a collector in my friend list and even he once said that he does not count any of the 1.0 items as part of the collection thus has no problem on missing on them. So why is it important that they should exist in 2.0? Also how are they dictating the direction of the game? They are giving their feedback on something they hold dear to them and were a promise do exist too. And the OP also not said that they should not be released but that they should be renamed thus keeping both parties happy. How is that bad? (Feedback is not only valueable if its of your opinion. Lets not take the people down and talk about them as inferior fans just because they feel different about this..)
I for example want the feast mounts to be achieveable again but I would not want them to be put into a simple event..no I would still want to earn them in PVP but maybe with something that is not strictely limited.
They could have simply put those earrings behind Bahamut Ultimate, or for clearing this version Nael Savage. There are many ways they could have done it.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
