When it gets to the Garlemaid expansion they introduce a new feature where the Magitek shipyards are open for players to buy their own housesized (small, medium and big) airships. Buy these as you would houses and you can do all the things houses can, can move your airship to various scenic locations.
And since it's up in the god damn air, no chance of running out of plots.

This would be a great way to introduce instanced housing.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

This would be great, so long as individual airship-houses aren't rendered for random players (could you imagine the virtual blackout that people could engineer by gathering a few hundred of them together in a particular area of a map?).

As an aside, it'd be really neat if you could also fly around your airship-house in a sort of 'sphere of navigation' zone.

Honestly I can see them adding a nod to this by just having the model for the house airship appear randomly, and singularly, in random zones - much like retainer models sometimes spawn to do a random task before disappearing in the old ARR zones. I really loved seeing retainers randomly spawn in their base outfit and interacting with the world, and so long as they make these mini events mesh with the rest of the game I don't see why houseships couldn't work just as well.

Wait, this might actually fix our housing issue.

Now instead of competing with people for housing, most people who lose this will just quit outright, because now Square's even saying they aren't allowed a house after trying for years.

Great idea man. I can't wait for this to be implemented, subs to plumit, and have to close out some wards because they somehow ran out of money to fund the extra houses.

... Okay in serious. A bidding system is much better than this.

How about no and have SE fix the core problem with housing. The problem was personal was supposed to be something different then fc housing like instanced housing, ishgard would be perfect since they are past the point of no return.
Anyways lotto system makes as much sense as the current system we have now
, a bidding system would be better, at least with a bidding system people that put the most work for a housing gets one.

Nope, the system was broken at release and still is. All they did was band aid "fix" it so it is more tolerable.

Honestly this could be really neat. I hate bringing it up because Wuuugh, dead game, but, Wildstar has something similar with housing. You basically have a plot in the "Sky" and its an instanced zone, but players can find you if you allow guests and can come visit. granted you had a HUGE plot and could build a ridiculous amount of stuff, but still. Airships could allow for instanced housing.

Or, you slap a weekly rent on the houses so the players require to maintain, else they run risk losing their place.
With that, you always have them active, and others get their chance of a plot when they get cleared.

Unless staying in the ward for a set amount of time is part of the rent it won't do anything. People will just begrudgingly pay it and either stay cloistered at their respective spots if they bother with the wards at all or keep idling in other more productive places. Unless value is added to the wards themselves, nothing is really going to make them feel any less dead for those who aren't exceedingly lucky with active FC's that find worth in idling near their respective marketboards and actually interacting with others.

You realize a bidding system would lead to the same thing we had before. Only those with mounds of gil will have housing while everyone else will be left with the scraps.

Even with the broken house limiting feature they introduced, it doesnt stop people from bypassing it.
