Well I'm not sorry to disagree, Nabril, but I would also (as an elezen and highlander main) say au ra... But xaelas specifically. Because yes, they have that unique point of view, but, at the same time, they're pretty religious, and not that violent nor that stupid. They're pretty much less violent than Ul'dah or even Limsa are, they live peacefully eleven months a year, and they have one of the most developed lores in the game...
Plus, it fits every event in the MSQ, from the opening cinematic to the whole doman/mhigan liberation. It also makes much more sense for the nadaam, for the cold reception you got in ishgard and so on.
And they look cool. Less than elezens, but hey.
I think any one of the races could be the protagonist, all have their own strong and weak points. I keep trying to choose one, but i truly would be happy with any, but it would be nice to have more variety besides the Hyur, but i understand why they always pick it.
No matter what never give up and never lose hope, even in the darkest night God give us the Moon and the Stars to give us hope in the night.
Male Hyur in my opinion.
It's the most fitting with the rest if the cast of protagonists in the series (even IX which had a world with hippoes and mouse people featured a young adult human guy... let's pretend the tail doesn't exist) and the Hyur from the cinematics actually looks relatively cool for a generic character creator pre-set.
Second choice would be lalafell, it's what I play as and even though they're not technically kids, child-like characters lend themselves well to fantasy stories like these I think, and it really makes it seem like a story of success against all odds and it explains why characters like that blushy imperial guy would underestinate you despite your status as the Warrior of Light.
I just like the implication of there being stories about this bloodthirsty unstoppable god-slaying demon and then it turns out to just be a tiny girl that happens to be really good with an axe.
Chocobo is the only one true race.
Deserve? None of the races deserve it more than any other. Some might have an easier time than others at being the WoL, but that's a whole different thing.
I'd say Hyur Highlander. They have the perfect build and scruffy face that screams Hero! Hyur is perfect since all races seem to branch off of this and Highlander over Midlander, because Midlanders are too scrawny. Roegadyn's are huge, but too cartoonish looking, Highlanders are just right.
I want Half Elezen/Au Ra hybrids to be WoL... And everyone is trying to figure how such hybrid would end up looking like so here's what I would want them to look like; Min-Max Elezen height for both genders, Au Ra body features(including scales and optional tail) the option to pick Au Ra horns or Elezen ears, and of course the optional limbal rings that the Au Ra can have for their eyes...
I'm also pretty sure that there are some role-players who want the ability to play as halfling races although that would require it's own kind of stat balancing for new characters...
All except Au Ra. My opinion is based on the legacy warriors of light, the ones in the ARR opening trailer "Answers".
Job + race:
Midlander Hyur Warrior
Sea Wolf Roegadyn Paladin
Duskweight Elezen Black Mage
Seeker o.t. Sun Mi'qote Bard (or was it keeper?)
Plainsfolk Lalafellin White Mage
When regarding "protagonists" I usually go by what is labeled the "posterboy". The only one-off I could see for Au Ra would be based on HW's mentor of Dark knight which would be the Xaelan Au Ra Sidurgu. Alas, he is a full npc in the game unlike the original five warriors of light.
