    DX11 FPS Limit Not Obeyed While Minimized

    Date & Time: 2018-03-19 1PM JST (Originally noticed/reported 2017-07-12)

    Steps:
    1. Start the DX11 version of FFXIV in windowed mode.
    2. Select 60, 30, or 15 fps limits.
    3. Do not select any other limits such as reduced background limit or AFK limit.
    At this point, the game properly runs at the selected limit, e.g. 30fps.
    It also runs at the proper limit when it doesn't have focus.


    4. Minimize the game.
    At this point, the game will run at an uncapped FPS as fast as possible while minimized.

    This bug does not exist in the DX9 version of the game.

    This is not a technical support issue. This is a longstanding yet ignored bug and it belongs in the bugs forum.

    Just try it. Think of a way to measure the FPS while the game is minimized under the described settings. You will see it skyrockets beyond the set limit if your machine is capable, heavily loading the GPU. This happens on all 3 Windows 7 machines I've tested, and only in the DX11 version.

    Here's what happens:





    In case the images fail, the first image shows the in-game settings set to 15 FPS limit with neither AFK nor background reduction enabled.

    The second image shows a graph of GPU usage, with ~7% GPU usage during a focused/unfocused period, and 25% GPU usage during a minimized period.

    Due to the nature of this system, 25% actually represents 100% load for the discrete GPU. I can demonstrate this does not happen in DX9 if necessary.
