OK I'm so confused after reading up on certain skills which are all over 4 years old now, re: no more cross class skills. Now as I understand it MY BLM can no longer level arcanist to get physik / protect. Is this now correct? I had been told on FB that at lev 48 I could do this, but then the other day I was told in NN that this is NOT so any longer. As much as I enjoy the game it would be way more helpful if the guides were up to date. I know it's no ones fault here, just saying. Thanks !

These are all the actions you can use as BLM. You cannot use any other actions. Cross class abilities are no longer a thing except when playing a crafter or gatherer.

Sadly it is true - the cross class ability system was completely scrapped when Stormblood launched, instead replaced by the 'role ability' system where each class/Job learns certain abilities automatically based on their role (healer, tank, ranged DPS, physical DPS or magic DPS) and once you have learned that role ability, it can be used by any other class of that same role (like, you learn a tank role ability as GLA and you can use it on MRD and DRK).

Unfortunately Protect was changed to a healer role ability and Physick changed to only be a class ability for ACN/SMN/SCH so they cannot be used by another class or Job I'm afraid. For what it's worth THM/BLM does gain some new abilities to compensate, but overall for all classes and Jobs to me we lost more than we gain to be really honest.
