    Food Effects and Food Recipes

As food effects are slated for adjustment in 1.20b and recipes due to be updated in 1.21 isn't it about time we got our opinions out to the devs, I've had a quick search of the forums and couldn't find a definitive thread regarding these topics, however I was a cursory glance so you'll have to forgive me if I've missed your thread.

Anyway here goes for my ideas / some other suggestions I've heard, read of fleshed out, again if it's one of your ideas, sorry for poaching it, but I liked it and hopefully took it one step further.

    Food Effects

Bring back the old and trusted method of base caps. Each food has 1 fixed stat and one stat that affects a stat based on a percentage and base cap, so:

    Flatbread
    VIT +2
    Defence +27% (cap is +50 @ 185 Defence)

    Knights bread
    VIT +5
    Defence +20% (cap is +150 @ 600 Defence)

    Meat Miq’abob
    STR +4
    Attack power +22% (cap is +65 @ 295 attack)

Kobold Punch (I know theres no such drink, but as juices are taken by crafters I made one up, I'm sure were going to need to see a complete overhaul of the food recipe system).
    Regen 2HP / 3sec
    MP +12% (cap is 204 @ 1700mp)

As you can see from above a level 10 Gladiator with defence of say, 180, would benefit more from Flat bread giving him the full 50 points of defence as opposed to the Knights bread which would only give him 36 points of defence.

    Duration

All food should be active for:

5 mins for raw foods / ingredients
30 mins for crafted food eaten individually
2 hours if consumed as part of a meal

    Meals
Should consist of 3 crafted items, no beneficial increase in effects, just able to stack multiple effects i.e.:

    Melee/Tank
Starter Knights Bread Defence / VIT
Main course Meat Miq’abob Attack Power / STR
Drink Kobold Punch HP regen/ MP

From the above you would benefit from:
    Defence + 150
    VIT +5
    Attack power +65
    STR +4
    HP regen @ 2hp/3secs
    MP + 204

Obviously this is just from a Melee/Tanks point of view; there would be different food effects for every stat, that’s up to square to work out.

    Food Recipes

I don’t mind the recipes so much, with a levelled gathering class, or a friend that has one levelled, and some farming sessions for meats etc, you can come by the ingredients easily enough. However the returns can be a bit lame, for so many ingredients in a recipe I’d hope to see at least 3 finished items for my troubles. I’m guessing once food stats are sorted, and a clearer understanding of the exact effects the food is giving you, making food will seem less tedious, making Knights bread, Sauerkraut and Shepherds pies over and over again for no EXP gain is getting a bit tired.

I would however like to point out that we still get raped on inventory space for ingredients like Mineral water, Aldgoat milk and buffalo milk, only stacking to 12. It’s about time these were sorted and stack to 99.

Anyway, some ideas to hopefully get the creative juices of the community going, come on guys n gals, lets get what we want out of food from the Devs.

No, that's how they did it in ffxi so it can't be done that way! (am i doing this right?...)

That aside, looks good to me. I've eaten various things and really haven't noticed much of a change at all... so i'm looking forward to food doing something.

Not to mention i keep finding multiple bowls of stone soup in chests... How long does that stuff keep anyways?

Yeah, get that FFXI shit outta here!

We most definitely need food that lets you KNOW it's working. Right now foods have a very minimal effect, the most effect you feel is the HP/MP gain from it.

    Hey Thug! *cheers*

I fully support your post and I really like the idea of meals! You could also add an "Meal Bonus", which grants another 5% to every food you ate for example (Although you mentioned no beneficial increase, I wouldn't mind that). Making it worth eating a full meal, instead of a single dish. Furthermore allowing a culinarian to be finally of real use in the game. The benefit of food must be high enough so that ppl use it frequently.

Another possiblity that you could add a "Meal Bonus" which depends on the combinations you make. These are just made up and could be anything.

For example: Vegetable Dish + Meat Dish + Grain Dish = ACC + HP Bonus
Sweet Dish + Drink + Seafood Dish = Magic Attack + MP REGEN Bonus

On a side note, I would love there to be a description on food, which clearly states what the food does (Same goes with any consumable item).

I want to know what the effect of it is and how much it would increase my current stats. Sort of like when you compare other equipment with what you're wearing currently.

Anyhow good going Thug there finally needs to be a change for culinarians! Don't leave the chef's hanging SE

I think I'd only really like re-adopting the stat cap stuff if that information was added to the item descriptions. We need food to be usable and having all the relevant accessible to the players will help that quite a bit.

I think I'd like to see food go more the route of having different foods within the same category give different ratios of bonuses, or something. One thing I like about the old system is that foods of the same type give the same bonuses, so you could just grab whatever was for sale or within your budget, and if you took the time and effort to alter your stats for specific foods, you could get larger bonuses and profit more from higher end food.

Whatever they do with it I'd just like a system that encourages more variety with what is used/made instead of what happened in FF11 and there only being like 5 pieces of food that were ever used.

whatever the stats may be, i'd like them to be displayed in my attributes window. Another thought, can I have some windows up while playing please?

Elea has created many threads replete with information on food and their effects. Thank you Elea. Links and information are posted below. Bon Appetit~~

EDIT: Found this thread -it would seem Elea has been prodigious in the spreading of her most astute information. Posts closer to the information below can be found here and here.

What Is the Purpose of Food?

Food is used for boosting a variety of stats. You can use food for attribute boosts like DEX, VIT, MND, PIE,etc,etc.. or you can look for boosts of Control, Perception, Attack, HP/MP+,etc, etc...

When you use food you get +5 in whatever stat the food enhances. Yes, that doesn't sound special at all, but hold on to your silky Thor undies! I bring great news! If you use food properly, there is a bonus (Yes, a *☆BONUS☆*).

If you use food in the most proper way, you can receive up to about +7.4% of what the food enhances.

Have you ever seen someone eat something and they receive messages like "eats a ----- and finds it to be divine (delicious/tasty)"? Those are bonuses.

"Tastes divine" offers +7.4% to the stat
"Tastes delicious" offers +5.4% to the stat
"Tastes tasty" offers +3% to the stat

If you receive no message and only "well fed" means you are not receiving the bonus

How do I receive this bonus?

As you know, when you look up food on websites, you would see Optimal Rankrank #). Food has a favored optimal level just like equipment does. So you should pay attention to that as you SHOULD do for your equipment.

Also, to get the bonus for food, you have to utilize your points. Each raw food and dish has a favored rank, attribute, and element. You would need to apply the correct amount of points for those areas to receive the full bonus of the food you want to use.

I hear you guys already, "This means I dont have freedom for my points! D: "
Settle down, its ways to still get a bonus for your food.

    What food favors what stats

    DISH TYP ________________STAT____ELEMENT
    Meat Dish ________________STR_____FIRE
    Stews ___________________STR_____EARTH
    Soups ___________________PIE______FIRE
    Grain Dish ________________VIT_____WIND
    EggDish __________________VIT_____LIGHTNING
    Vegetable Dish (Salad)______DEX_____EARTH
    Vegetable Dish (Non-Salad)__MND_____ICE
    Seafood Dish (Cooked)______DEX_____LIGHTNING
    Seafood Dish (Raw) ________INT_____WATER
    Sweets___________________INT_____ICE
    Drinks____________________MND____WATER
    Dairy_____________________PIE_____WIND

    VITALITY__________Grains, Mushrooms
    DEXTERITY________Freshwater Fish, Saltwater Fish
    INTELLIGENCE _____Vegetables, Lamp Marimo
    MIND_____________Eggs
    PIETY____________Fruits

    The Chart

    Rank -Stat- Element
    1_____16____12
    5_____19____15
    7_____20____16
    10____25____20
    12____27____21
    13____29____22
    15____31____24
    17____34____27
    20____38____30
    22____41____32
    25____45____36
    27____49____37
    30____53____42
    32____56____44
    35____61____48
    37____63____51
    38____68____52
    40____70____54
    45____78____62
    50____87____70

This chart shows the optimal rank for food to the left, attribute stat in the middle, and the element stat to the right (obvious)

How Do I Use that information?

    Let's do an example:

"I'm rank 36, but I'm having horrible luck with control on harder synthesis. I want to have better control! What can help me???"

    Tuna Miq'abob: Optimal Rank 35
    Accuracy: +5
    Control: +5

From the list, you saw that cooked seafood dishes favors DEX and Lightning element.

From the chart, you saw that rank 35 food favors attributes stats of 61 and element of 48.

    To get "tastes divine" :

BOTH attribute AND element stats have to be+/- 5 of the optimal points.

Ex: DEX 63 Lightning 48 will give you divine
Ex: DEX 66 Lightning 52 will give you divine
Ex: DEX 66 Lightning 53 will give you divine

    To get "tastes delicious" :

EITHER the attribute OR the element have be within +/- 3 of the optimal points

Ex: DEX 63 Lightning 55 will give you delicious
Ex: DEX 103 Lightning 46 will give you delicious

    To get "tastes tasty" :

EITHER the attribute OR the element have to be -/+ 4-5 of the optimal points.

Ex: DEX 66 Lightning 22 will give you tasty
Ex: DEX 97 Lightning 52 will give you tasty

    Its THAT simple.

    Closing Time

That really is all there is to it. Many cooks know this and ive noticed other crafters know this also because Ive seen the messages they get nowadays.

I want to make sure I keep spreading the word about food effects because a Cook has to make that bread (literally!)

special thanks to all cooks/crafters who helped with all this research about food and my favorite Chef Mirale Metis!

Yes, your absolutely right, they are out of date, you still get the +5 on some recipes, some effects are hidden, but i have'nt seen a tasty or devine prock since before 1.18, hence the need for a better system and more open information regarding the effects of food, that's why this thread is here.....
