FFXIV keeps crashing (errors: dx11 & XAudio)

Hello,

I recently bought a new laptop and installed FFXIV (PC), but have been experiencing routine crashes with the following error message (https://imgur.com/a/xoC6e):

I've disabled possible overlays (Discord, Xbox Game Bar & DVR) and tried reinstalling FFXIV but the game still crashes. Sometimes it crashes within seconds of entering the server, other times it lasts 20 minutes or so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hello Nyatto, Thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Are you receiving any lowered frame rate?

Has anything on your computer updated recently?

What have you done to solve the issue up until this point? Are your graphics card drivers up to date? Additionally, have you tried lowering the resolution or graphics settings (even if your GPU can obviously handle it), does this have any effect, or does the frame rate remain constant regardless of what you choose?

If none of this seems to have any affect, try turning off Direct X 11 mode and see if this adds any more stability to the game. Also, disable any programs in the background while you are playing the game (again, even if your computer should be able to handle it).

If any of these solves your issue, please let us know so we can further assist others with the similar problems. We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Hello, thank you for the response!

I was not experiencing any lowered frame rate, the game would run flawlessly then suddenly freeze and the error dialogue would pop up. It's a new laptop so I can't really compare it to a prior state, but I did update my NVIDIA graphics driver and Windows 10 OS to their latest updates. I closed Skype, Discord, Spotify, Steam, Chrome, which are all the background apps I usually leave open, and added the client to my antivirus' exception list just in case that was interfering with the game.

I have not tried lowering the resolution or graphics settings while running Direct X 11 yet, but I did disable Direct X 11 mode and the game ran smoothly for a good 7 hours before it crashed once. Played another long session of 8 hours after and the game didn't crash at all. I'll try lowering the resolution and graphics settings with Direct X 11 on, but for now disabling it seems to work!

Sorry, i dont return to DX9 because the client has an issue with Audio and DX11. Please fix this, this issue is old. In all other games there are no problems to standard output with microsoft default drivers, only in ffxiv.

Did you transfer over your ff14 files to the new PC from your previous? Using the wrong .exe can also cause this I believe...

Hmm I transferred my character keybindings and macros, but nothing else. I reinstalled the client itself fresh on the laptop. Not sure if that caused the issue? It would be terrible if I had to rebind and re-macro everything /shudders

I've played for about 2 hours now without any crashes or frame rate drops, I'll continue to monitor the game and see if it holds up!
