Bring an archer, stuff melts. They do very good DPS. They're also prone to standing in stuff and not peeling off you effectively, so it can be kinda frustrating at times. But they're pretty workable. As you keep running them you unlock more options for orders which improves their effectiveness.

As they said somewhere, they will improve it with more dungeons.
I have the pleasure of trying it a hand lately. And for one that play mostly as a tank, it really makes the grinding to cap level less horrible.
It is a way better option than PoDT! So it was a great idea!
Mostly probs with IA is solved when you learn to "command squadron" using the proper commands during the fights.

I've been leveling my squadron's battle tactics and I can tell you, 2 dps and a healer with Offensive at 3-4/5 and 5/5 (which my conjurer has, orz) burn through mobs in a few seconds. It's insane. Speedrunning Brayflox to farm glamour on the side, and exp for bonus, I can do it in just 13 minutes as a tank. My current group consists of conjurer, arcanist and archer.

For example at a start in Brayflox, where I have to get the key from the goblin, I put my squadron to fight the remaining three mobs in front of the gate and when I run back they have one left and no danger of wiping at all. What I've noticed as an effective tactic, playing with mouse and keyboard, is that the moment I pull, I also click the engage button. That way all the unclaimed comes to me for grabs instead. And before they manage to kill the first target, I engage them to second and let 'delay' and 'dot' spells kill the remaining HP of the mob. When the group's last mob is still alive, I go pull the next one and everyone follows nicely after with engage to the new mob instead of randomly getting the chance to attack one in the group.

But the AI needs improvements for example in small boss areas so that, like Brayflox's first boss, the squadron members don't lock themselves out of the battle. Luckily they respawn on top of you with disengage, or occasionally runs through the battlefield barrier like it wasn't there.

Can't wait to see what they'll do with squadron and which dungeons we get!

its good for getting quick queues as DPS but I can see the novelty wearin off when you are stuck on the same dungeon for 15 levels or whatever it is.
Only real problem Ive encountered is that as a PS4 player clicking on engage, disengage is a pain as I have to cycle through the different boxes as the NPC horbar isn' linked to my L2R2 hotbars...it usually goes
    1st click - Mission box
    2nd click - Chat box
    3rd click - NPC hotbar.
Which when youre trying to disengage to fall back from an aoe is a pain (think SV final boss as I've wiped a few times on that due to this issue)
Maybe I'm missing a trick here? Maybe I'm making life difficult for myself?
Also think I'm missing a trick with LB. I normally run as tank but can't seem to get the DPS to do a LB. I'm sure when I click the LB button on the NPC hotbar it activates my tank LB, again might be missing something simple here.
I've only ran them a half dozen or so times, les than 10 as I don't have the emote. So still fairly new.

The LB is the same, no matter what role you are. You do have to be close to the mob activate it, though.

I play on a PS4 and have no issue playing through this with a controller. I've run it several times , I got the hang of it. Engage & Disengage is helpful in certain situations and you have to learn when to use it.

I got the emotes, then never entered it again. On the otherhand all my classes at the time were level 60 or higher. I reckon if I still had a low level DPS class, then I would have used it more and benefited more from it.

I just wish there were more dungeons really. The only thing I use command missions for is levelling my dps without having to worry about the queues, but since all my jobs were 60+ already when command missions came out the exp from running WP isn’t all that worth it. Some 60 dungeons would at least give moderate exp from 60-70 and the squad can level up to 60 anyway so they could do that content.

A few of the classes have some balance issues as well, I kinda wish we could evolve them to jobs or for them to get some of the npc enemy versions of job abilities. The MRD a.i. Can’t aim overpower very well, so it would be nice for it to get steel cyclone for example.

I noticed early on that WP gives worse exp than Stone Vigil and Brayflox, at least per mob. WP gives 2.6k per mob when in SV it's 4.6k per mob.

It was fun the first 1 or 2 runs, but ultimately another huge waste of development resources at this point.
