Is there anyway else to get the lower tier crafting materia?

It seems like its easy to obtain Vs and IVs through red scrips but prices for I, II, III are high on the mb and these are very scarce.

It seems weird that we can purchase the higher tier at a vendor but can't for the lower ones.

Unless there is a vendor somewhere I don't know about?

Spiritbond items. It's the "normal" way of generating materia.

Or spiritbond gear in the right level range, if you want to go with the slow way.

Ixali are great for I and II but spiritbonding is faster for III. Due to airship return oversupply III are usually pretty cheap on the MB.

personally i just skip the grade III's altogether at the moment, too much hassle spiritbonding them when IV's are so cheap. I'd rather see them just make it possible to buy them for gil at this point.

I've always hated doing Ixali, so I use quite a different method to most, not sure how well it works with Tier 3, but as for Tier 1/2 materia:

Buy NQ vendor gear, lower level if you want low tier, and higher level if you want higher tier materia ofc. Full set including accessories, then equip this gear on your battlecraft class. Red Mage for example in mine, so I may have a full set of Velveteen and Silver accessories. Then I go burn down mobs in combat. My preferred location is at North Shroud. With the i320 main weapon they near enough always go down in 1 hit, and the rate is pretty good, even unbuffed by materia, squadron manual, or the Spiritbond Potion.

This is true until you reach Heavensward gear and onwards. BTW, Urth's Font and the Patrician Set says, "Hello!"

Urth's Fount used to be peppered with tons of folks. Alternatively, you can grind on mobs out at the Burning Wall. There's lots of critters there that drop Snurble Tufts, and those are always worth a pretty penny.

Depending on your on hands, if you slot materia into the gear you intend on Spirit Binding, you will SB faster. All those junk element resist grade 1 materia are perfect for this. If the item in question is HQ, it, too, will SB faster. Bring a few SB potions along with you (can buy from vendor).

Another decent place to SB is out in Coerthas on Karakuls. They drop tons of fleece and you can get decent gil WHILE getting lots of crafting materia
