I've been having a similar problem where the game just crashes. I came back to start playing before the x-pack and Ive played about 36 hours so far. I would get random crashes with similar errors (I only run DX9) and now the crashes are so frequent and immediate I can't even log into a character anymore. I used to be able to play this game no problem.

I've re-installed and tried a number of video settings etc. and the problem persists worse than ever it seems.

If your system is completely crashing and it's not just crashing out of the game then I'd suspect a main system hardware issue. FFXIV is a pretty good stress test.

It looks like unstable Ram so maybe check that out first.

Can you try changing your CPU core voltage?

Change it to adaptive and increase the base voltage slightly.

Try increasing your GPU voltage too, without increasing your boost clock and memory clock.

I've already ran the window memory test and it didn't find any errors. I guess it could still be ram but that test didnt find anything.

I did keep finding an issue in the event logs and it seems a lot of times when it crashed it was related to something Realtek. I tried updating it and got stuck in an uninstall restart loop. Not sure if I got it updated. Upon inspection of the driver for Realtek it said 8/2016. I clicked rollback driver and jt changed the driver date to 3/2017. Weird....

I did a clean uninstall and reinstall of my Nvidia drivers using DDU. When I reinstalled, I only installed the driver and PhysX. None of the 3d stuff. It actually ran the Stormblood benchmark on loop and made it 2 times through then had my computer restart on its own. Event logs stated a critical error. It said it was a Kernal error. It didn't say anything about Realtek or FFXIV. Thoughts?

What motherboard are you running? A couple threads came up on Google for your issue and the Asus Cross hair boards with their Realtek Driver. Maybe they have the wrong file on their site. Have you tried running the driver DVD for your motherboard on a fresh install.

Or are you getting all files online.

Returning player here. I'm a programmer, so I consider myself pretty tech-savvy.

I'm getting basically the same errors as OP. Mainly "An unexpected error has occured…", but also Error 11000002, Exception c0000005 and a single blue screen. Although I didn't see Error 11000002 and Exception c0000005 in the last few days, so I think my trouble shooting had at least some effect.

The errors are very sporadic – sometimes I can leave the game running for 10h just standing around and it doesn't crash, sometimes it crashes after 5 minutes. Most of the times, I can play about 1-3 hours before it crashes. It also doesn't show a clear pattern when crashing – it's always in a different situation (talking to NPC's, combat, cutscenes, just standing around idling etc.).

I've tried all the things OP has and also completely reinstalled Windows and ran all kinds of tests (Prime95, Memtest86) – without any issues. I'm monitoring CPU and GPU temps all the time, but they are way down in the green (I have very good cooling in my system). I temporarily switched to my old GPU (a 980 Ti) but I'm getting the same errors with that. I also disabled any overlays since I read that these might cause problems. I copied the game directory from a friend who's having no issues at all to rule out corrupt game files.

    Most important specs:

OS: Windows 10 CU (with the latest updates)
    CPU: i7-4790k
GPU: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti AMP Extreme (running on stock overclock/boost)
    RAM: 32GB DDR3-2400 (using XMP)
SSD: Samsung 950 PRO 512GB NVMe M.2 (the OS and FF14 are both on that)
    Display: Dell S2716DG (27 inches, 1440p, 144Hz, G-SYNC)

Removing any overclocks (CPU/GPU/XMP) doesn't have any effect.

I'm having no issues in any other games or benchmarks. I also didn't have any issues with FF14 1 1/2 years ago and the only thing I changed is my GPU (but, again, I switched back to it temporarily and still get the errors). So I'm guessing it might either be Windows 10 (or more specifically, the CU) or the game client.

One last thing I will try today is playing without Discord running to see if that has any effect – someone mentioned it and googling for "discord causing game crashes" has quite a few results. I will report back if that has any effect. Discord is pretty resource-hungry since it's running on Electron.
