[STEAM VERSION] RANDOM CRASHING, PC MONITOR DISCONNECTS AND COMPUTER LOCKS UP

    !!! Dear SQUARE ENIX:

PLEASE DO NOT MOVE THIS TO RESOLVED

Because as of today, this issue is still UNRESOLVED !!!

Alright, SO. Normally I don't turn to forums for help, but this issue has been getting on my nerves for the past two days now. I'm not sure what is happening, but I have enough technical knowledge to know it's video card related.

I've been running into an issue with FFXIV (+ Heavensward), which apparently isn't new to players, where my game will randomly crash my computer. The screen will go black and tell me the device has been disconnected, and the lights on my keyboard freeze and my Skype with my friends will go mute (sometimes.) This indicating my computer has locked up, but sometimes the monitor will just go black and I can talk to my friends still. Sometimes the computer will restart itself, or sometimes I'm forced to power the PC off and then back on.

Strangely enough, after reinstalling graphic drivers, the game crashing my PC has turned my SLI off. Then another crash has turned my SLI back on. Strange, right?

Usually these crashes happen just a few minutes after logging into the game, but I've also had incidents where I can play 20+ minutes and then I crash.

Now, I've tried multiple solutions after reading several threads. None of them have worked. I'm going to post my PC specs and solutions I've tried. If there's anything that has worked for you or any suggestions, do let me know. Thanks.

Keep in mind, I'm running the game on DX11. As I make this post, I'll be attempting to run the game on DX9. I'll update the thread with how that goes.

    + COMPUTER SPECIFICATIONS +

    - CPU: AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7 GHz Socket AM3+ 220W Desktop CPU (Black Edition)
    - GPU(s): EVGA GTX 970(x2) SLI
    - RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3
    - MOTHERBOARD: ASUS TUF SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
    - HDD (that the game is running on): WD Black 2TB
    - OS: Windows 10 64-Bit

Keep in mind, I'm always running this game at a consistent 60 FPS.

    + ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS +

    - Heaven Benchmark 4.0 Stress Test (ran well on Ultra graphics for over 5 minutes, 120+ FPS constant)
    - Disabling SLI
    - Reinstalling graphics driver, manually and then with Wagnard
    - Overclocking GPU by just a smudge (this then actually made me crash instantly, so I removed the profile. Was using MSI Afterburner, then I moved to EVGA Precision, then stopped using both.)
    - Watching both the CPU temps and GPU temps while ingame (CPU temps never went past 60, and GPU temps never went over 80)
    - Removing any overlays on the game besides the default Steam overlay (NVIDIA GeForce FPS counter and Shadowplay recording indicator, Discord overlay.)
    - Changing NVIDIA Control Panel settings to prefer maximum performance on the game.
    - (Putting this here so people avoid posting about it, but my Power Settings are already set to High Performance)
    - Running CCleaner to remove any old files.
    - Running Witcher 3 on Ultra graphics for 30+ minutes. (It's not any issue with my hardware, I'm having NO OTHER ISSUES WITH ANY OTHER GAMES.)
    - Disabling any FPS limitations ingame.
    - Editing the regedit with two values (TdrDiDelay Value = 20, TdrDelay Value = 20 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/GraphicsDrivers)

+ PROGRAMS I HAVE RUNNING WHILE INGAME +

    - ParkControl (uses all available power of CPU cores)
    - NVIDIA GeForce Experience (there's still an overlay thing about recording with ShadowPlay that pops up for a brief second. Not sure if this counts as an overlay.)

Well after switching to DX9, I haven't crashed for about 15 minutes now. My FPS is worse and the game doesn't look as great on DX11, but I have yet to experience an issue. I wouldn't really call this a real solution, more like a temporary solution. I'll edit this post if I crash on the DX9 client.

Edit: Just finished a long session of gaming with my friends. Game runs perfectly fine on DX9, but I'm sure if I switched to DX11, I'd crash. Going to attempt to reinstall DX11 later as Valenth suggested below later.

Okay, there's one thing that popped in my mind that I would try (no matter how rediculous it may sound), but have you tried taking out one of your videocards to see how the game performs on a single card? Just for the sake of excluding a possibility?

I haven't tried this, no. As I mentioned in the OP, I've tried playing the game before when my SLI bridge wasn't even picking up my second card (after the game had crashed and disabled the bridge.) I mean, I suppose it's possible that taking out the other card might change something.

Also, still playing on DX9. Haven't crashed yet. Not happy I can't run DX11, but so far it's a temporary solution.

Hmm... dx9 keeps running but dx11 crashes. I don't notice you having tried to reinstall DirectX in your attempted solutions. Perhaps this could be tried first before attempting the removal of one card?

Pretty sure the DX11 client isn't in any of the SLI/CF profiles. At least on the AMD side, Crossfire hasn't worked properly for FFXIV in years. Wouldn't be surprised if the situation is similar for Nvidia cards. Try disabling SLI. I also know that the DX11 mode can be very buggy when running in Borderless Window, so maybe try real Fullscreen if you haven't already (though if that's the case, SLI will be disabled anyway since multi-GPU solutions only work in fullscreen).

I've just got this problem today exactly and it's pissing me off. Like everything was working fine and now it just does not want to work.

Can confirm by this point that DX11 is the issue. However, searching around, I haven't been able to see a clear solution on how to reinstall DirectX 11. I'm currently running on Windows 10, which supposedly installs DirectX for you through updates? If I have this wrong or if there's an easy way to reinstall, that'd be cool to know. :-p

Have already ran the game with NVIDIA SLI disabled, and can confirm the issue still persists. In DX9 with SLI, the game works fine. I believe the issue is simply DX11, and I haven't tried running the game in fullscreen yet. I will go ahead and give it a go now.

I share your frustration, and highly recommend trying these different solutions that I listed in my OP. So far, DX9 has been the temporary solution fix that has been able to let me keep playing the game. I'd suggest that, if you haven't already.

Update: Just crashed as I normally would on fullscreen DX11. Can only play the game on DX9. Still waiting for a solution.

Good afternoon. The problem manifested itself just 10 days of play. Previously, problems have not been encountered. It was possible somthing changes in the game. In your case (if you have a 8.1 system \ 10), you can not restart the PC and quit combination Ctrl Alt Del and call manager or reconnect to the system (for me it turned out). As for the register - if memory serves - should eliminate the appearance of a window with an error to restart the video driver is nothing more. In my opinion you can help decrease the frequency of GPU core and memory via Afterburner by 15-20 percent (try lowering both cards with and without SLI). I have on both the PC appears only DX 11000002. error I got to locate an error only in the dungeons (during the game - only 1 time flew in the world) but it is not the best option, I had to reduce all of the options on the average or very low \ off) . Since the purchase of the game is free to play on ultra settings and had no problems ... The problem topical only DX 11 (not 9).

I'm apologize for my english, need more practice.
