I always supported the old battle system...and always was against the FFXI-like AA or the battle changes other than new animations...so i agree with OP.
I miss the original FFXIV mechanics...hopefully it will make a return as a spin-off game since they're already completely different games!
Would be a dream being able to go back to original FFXIV...specially if that patch adding interdisciplinary leves, party-based local leves and hamlet defense were also live by then! /o/

It is telling that a franchise with superior gameplay (Tales of) is vastly outsold by franchise with no gameplay (Final Fantasy). It is also telling that the "fans" want the franchise to go back to not having any gameplay like "the good JRPG's of the generation" (Lost Odyssey).
It is a hole that was not dug only by the developers but the fans who don't know what they want. Fans that put tradition on a pedestal while sacrificing gameplay in the process.
Spam attacks, nuke the mobs ele weakness and spam heal's to stay alive there are no real start's in tales game's except outliving your enemy.
As to this thread i think FF 14 combat is gonna be like Xenoblade where lot of skills are position based.

Then you have Ryan he has an gun lance with like an shield built onto it he is an Tank/DD
Then you have Sharla who is an Gunner/support/healer class.

hint: if you look at the new mmorpg title, I believe some of the new title, are spam 1.1.1.1.1.1 or 2.2.2.2. or 3.3.3.3.3, the different is they fix the system for better gameplay which is not the same as FFXIV spam attack at the early day

Now, seriously, if we are going to use light attacks anyway during the fight why don't we just make them auto? It's not that every action is now auto... just 1 over 25+ per class... plus auto-attack doesn't stop you for using/chain any other other action so why are there still people mad about it? What is it that you can't do with auto-attack system now? o.O
