RIP Minion Collectors :(

Very bad news minion collectors, it seems that season 3 of the feast will include a minion for those people who rank in the top 10 (per data centre!). Although they haven't specifically said it's exclusive, it probably is.

Edit: Just re-read that page, it's worse... "The mount and minion rewards for solo and party rankings differ in color.", suggesting there's *2* minions, you'd have to get both to complete the collection!

Please rethink this decision Square Enix... although some minions have previously been time limited, up until now we've all had a chance to get every single minion and this changes that. With only 20 minions per data server (10 solo, 10 party), realistically no one reading this post is going to get those minions.

Square Enix attach a lot of minions to physical products because they know it will increase sales as people will buy them just for the minions (I know I have... I've given some of the plush toys away as no interest in them...), but if people can no longer have a complete collection, then I have to wonder how many other people will reconsider buying physical merchandise if their collection will still always be incomplete?

Sorry that my post is a bit bitter, but I know I've spent a lot of time (and actual money!) to get the minions over the last 3 years and I know I'm not the only one. This just feels like a bit of a kick in the teeth to know even though I supported Square Enix with a continuous subscription since 2.0 came out and I've bought every piece of physical merchandise with a minion... I'll now never be able to keep my collection complete.

I do appreciate to anyone that doesn't collect them all this won't seem like a big deal and I understand that.

(I'm at 206 minions at the moment, I need Faustlet from Alex Savage, Wind-up Calofisteri from Weeping City, that pesky Hunting Hawk from Diadem and the new ones in the new 3.45 patch - so still completely doable so hadn't been that worried until now).

Strange how the devs seem so opposed to having time and amount limited PvE rewards but for PvP they seem to be more than happy with it, just imagine the rage if the upcoming kirin style reward for obtaining all the birds was only available to the first 10 players on each datacenter who managed to get all the birds or if all the savage drops disappeared after a patch or two.

Not only minions, but mounts too. I guess this is one of those things that you either join and do PvP or hope you are the best and let it go and move on. I understand you want them all, but there are some players who can not afford or are not able to buy (because of lack of creditcards, region, shipping cost to much etc.) the physical merchandise that give those items and they too, have no choice but to move on.

In most games the PvP reward is something that players want the most, so the developers make those items a reward, as a incentive for players to enter the matches. Some game give a high level armour or a title, with FFXIV you get glamour items, mounts and minions.

I am in the same boat and have always hated pvp. I barely just put effect into getting the Fenrir pup before I gave up and just bought it because I still didn't get a single drop after 3 weeks. Same going with the cheerleader but it helped knowing I could take my time to get both without being forced into content which I have to now fight other for and now limited. -.-

Yes, but in regards to mounts for the vast majority of players it was impossible to complete the collection of those right from the start of 2.0 (due to the Legacy Chocobo and Goobue). At least that's how I've always seen it so I've never personally tried to have a complete mount collection.

I don't disagree with you and to be honest I shouldn't really have bought some of the items, money could have been spent in much more needed places my life, but needed the collection... Oh well I suppose if nothing else this'll help me get some better life priorities than worrying about acquiring virtual minions in a game...

Again I don't disagree with you, but (as I'm sure you know!) Final Fantasy XIV is PvE... with a very small PvP bolted on. I guess they want to increase numbers of players doing it. I hear horror stories about win trading in PvP, but with no actual evidence of my own I hope they are just stories

Well I'm still up to date with the Orchestrion rolls... maybe have to prioritise those now... until they add 1 to PvP for 10 people only... :P

Same with Fenrir... tried for weeks, gave up bought it. Can't remember when I got the Cheerleader, but at least that wasn't impossible, just had to build up the Wolf Marks over time

The idea of a minion/mount collector is no reason to not do this. Minions and mounts are inherently valuable things that are utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Just because some guy can't collect them all is no reason that an ultra rare minion/mount should not be given as a prize for a PvP tournament.

Having said that, the way that this should be handled is by giving tokens for ranking in PvP and having these prizes be options, so that you get the choice of which prize you want, and the minion is always there to obtain for being in the top 10/100, no matter which season it is (like the prizes for screenshot contests)

What if that minion was a GOD TIER in lord of verminion? Be a shame to miss out or what if that minion was the MOST CUTENESS you or anyone has ever seen and just summoning it cheers up anyone sad days?

This makes perfect sense as to why it's so irksome for PVP to have such restrictions like this as much as I think PVP needs incentives, this current approach is not the right way.

Well usually with collecting, you don't need the items, but you still enjoy gathering them. It is also probably usual to value/enjoy having a complete collection more.

Because it's inherently exclusive. Even good PvPers will inevitably lose out solely because someone played more than they did. Not to mention, you can be a phenomenal PvPer yet get matched with bad players and lose your rank. And what about griefers? The Feast had a huge problem with people throwing matches purposely or win trading. No matter how good you are, you aren't going to catch up to them. It's also somewhat contradictory. The Moogle suit hasn't been made available on the cash shop because that wouldn't be fair to people who paid for the 2014 Fan Fest stream but here's a minion only twenty people will ever have access to. But if I worded this just a bit differently, say like...

"You do NOT need every minion
Allowing people to buy them off the Mogstation isn't an issue.
What harm is done towards you?"

Would you still feel the same?

On a separate note, this seems like a silly "incentive" to get people PvPing. The goal is basically unobtainable for the vast majority because all the currently high ranked PvPers are going to be jumping into the Feast from the word go. If you're new or even decent, well, you aren't going to catch them in four months because they have potentially years of experience. A better solution would be like what they did with Fenrir Pup or requiring you to do a certain amount of PvP via Roulette. Now everyone is on equal standing and can work at their own pace.
