    Changes to Gear Dying

    The following was posted today:

    [dev1207] Changes to Gear Dyeing
    * The following changes are planned for patch 1.20.
    * All features are under development and subject to change.

•Gear dyeing will change in patch 1.20.
Dyeing an item with the new recipes implemented in patch 1.19 would not only change its color; the item’s attributes and equipping requirements would also be affected. This essentially rendered players unable to dye gear to their liking. Patch 1.20 will enable players to dye gear without changing its attributes. New recipes will also be implemented that will allow you to voluntarily add attributes to items independent of color.
    * The above change is inspired by player suggestions.

The following revisions will be applied based on changes in gear attributes as a result of dyeing:
•Items with a single variant: item attributes and equipping requirements will be unified.
•Items with multiple variants: items with different attributes will be renamed, and new color variations added.
    * Exceptions exist.
    •Items with a Single Variant

    Example:
    <Patch 1.19>Cotton Acton
Requires: Disciplines of War or Magic
    HP: +32 Dyeing
    → Cotton Acton (Brown)
    Requires: Discipline of War
    HP: +32 MP: +32
    * Color, equipping requirements, and attributes have changed as a result of dyeing.

    <Patch 1.20>Cotton Acton
Requires: Disciplines of War or Magic
    HP: +32 Dyeing
    → Cotton Acton (Brown)
Requires: Disciplines of War or Magic
    HP: +32
    * Only color has changed as a result of dyeing.

    •Items with Multiple Variants

    Example:
    <Patch 1.19>Felt Robe
    Suits: All Classes
MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8 Dyeing
    → Felt Robe (Red)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    Mind: +6
    Felt Robe (Green)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    Attack Magic Potency:+8
    * Attributes differ according to color.

    <Patch 1.20>
    •Dyeing Only
    Felt Robe
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    Dyeing
    → Felt Robe (Red)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    * Although the name is the same as the Felt Robe, the actual item itself is different.
    Felt Robe (Green)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    * Only color has changed as a result of dyeing.

    •Adding Color/Attributes with New Recipes

    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54
    Magic Evasion: +8 Synthesis
→ Felt Robe (increases Attack Magic Potency)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic

    Requires: Discipline of Magic

    Attack Magic Potency: +8
    Magic Evasion: +8
    Felt Robe (increases Mind)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic
    MP: +54
    Magic Evasion: +8
    Mind: +6 Dyeing
→ Felt Robe (increases Mind) (Red)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic
    MP: +54
    Mind: +6
    Magic Evasion: +8
    Felt Robe (increases Mind) (Green)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic
    MP: +54
    Mind: +6
    Magic Evasion: +8
    * The above equipment names are tentative.
    •A Word of Caution
Due to the game's data structure, it is not possible at present to dye an item more than once. After Version 2.0, however, players will be able to dye an item multiple times.

    Just a couple of questions:

    1. Will previouslly crafted gear with the added stats revert to the new settings?

    2. If so will we be able to readd the stats to these pieces of gear?

    Otherwise looks fine.

Yea, it "sounds" like two different dying systems will be in place, I hope that was just listing how it was done and how it will be done though.

Because I really like the colors blue and green. As such I would love to be a full fledged DD lancer in one of those colors, OR a enfeebling/nuking mage in one of those two colors.

The dyeing fix is good, but the name really needs to change when a synthesis action is performed on an item and the stats change. Please don't call it "Felt Robe (increases Mind)" - just call it "Astute Felt Robe" or something. That way we don't have "Felt Robe (increases Mind) (Green)" - which is a mouthful and confusing if there are only 1 or 2 variants.

If SE were to introduce an augment system where the players could tweak with a whole list of added stats it would be one thing, but if there are a discrete number of recipes creating different items they should have distinct names.

EDIT: also - what if there are 2 different stats? macro /equip body "Felt Robe (increases Mind) (increases Attack Magic Potency) (Green)" anyone?

First you take away materials to make the crafting system more simplified and user friendly, then you add a system that complicates dying more than it needs to be.

    So you get:-
Dyed itemes - in every colour with normal stats.
Dyed enhanced itrems - in how many colours ?? (who knows) with different stats.

I hope they plan to have the later named (Enchanted) or something so players aren't spending an hour just looking amongst the 14 different pieces of gear for one item slot.

I like what the post above suggested, Astute Felt Robe would be a good name, all items with mind enchantments could then be called Astute so players can search for that type of item on the market ward/AH.

I can't comprehend how anyone could find this system complicated in any shape or form.

    Normal items
    Enhanced items

Both can be dyed independently through a simple one-step process.

    So to illustrate:

I can see some people getting pissed if they attached materia to an colored item this patch and the item loses it's extra stat next patch.
