The winner was well designed, but it bothers me that it's just another allagan set of armor. We have enough of those, seriously. But I digress. As far as my own favorites, this was my top pick:

And this was the second pick:

    Third pick:

For the sake of full disclosure though, I knew there was no way that first one was going to win because of how elaborate it is but I loved the color and design which was surprising as I normally prefer more simplistic designs. I really thought the second or third ones had a great chance though.

Also, I personally like my character to look feminine/decorated and with this winner there will still be zero outfits that give me that desired look without being "non-tanky". All level 1 glamour gear is made of cloth or leather, making them a perfect fit for any other role except tanking. Only as a tank do I have to pick between elaborate and role-fitting. however, the floral druid tank gear (among a few other entries) proves you don't have to sacrifice function for style or vice versa. This competition was the perfect opportunity to bring out something bulky but beautiful so I'm left a little disappointed.
I feel like this or mr. KG's green and brown simple coat and armor set would have been amazing drops for a Savage 4-man version of any dungeon like Amdapor Keep or the Arboritorium, or any other that can make foliage overrun ruins look ominous and fierce.

Personally, I like when the elaborate-ness comes down to sleek, practical matching of form of function while cutting a good silhouette (for me - slim or otherwise mostly regular to the race's form). That, and a sense of lore without being gaudy. Mr. KG's set mostly covers that for me, but was just a tad lacking in uniqueness to feel like it should be a substantial reward. (It instead felt like a really nice set of Ex roulette gear.)

I hope they implement a majority of these. Seems dumb to throw out all these good ideas for gear.

    Good evening guys, Gungnira here.

As one of the artists (and maybe the only german artist), I just want to share you my thoughts about the contest and the finalists.

To be honest, I expected to see the Luminous Allagan Gear as the winning design, because its very detailed, nice drawn and fits the lore. But I also didnt expect that my design would make it to the best 11 designs. Other designs were great, even those, which didnt made it to the finalists (my personal 3 favorites: Magical, Lalatank and Noble). But I think it wasnt easy for the Lead Designer to choose between so many awesome and different tank-designs.

From the artists point of view: creating a tank armour can be pretty hard. In fact, your (original) Tank-gear should:
    • fits the lore/world/class
    • fits for any race and gender (which can be a challenge)
    • be fashionable (or at least very detailed)
    • be functional (or at least look like a Tank-gear)
    • and be something new (but not look to much from other games).

My entry (Horizon Gear aka "PSO2 gear" lol) seems to be a bit special here (as intended). I clearly stepped away from some points I ve stated above. Maybe I love to be one of those "Bikini-Tanks" >: D

My main inspiration comes from two existing gearsets from FFXIV: The Augmented Robe of Healing (I love holograms ^^) and the Ironworks Gear of Fending (best gear ever ^^). I m a huge fan of the allagan and garlean designs (ironworks gear included). Having a chance in a design contest means to stand out from the mass. There are so many typical tank-gearsets (mostly plate armours) already in the game, thats why I tried to make something new. Some people might say, that my design dont fits into the world (because of sci-fi elements) or is already in the game (garlond/allagan), which is absolutely ok. My design wasnt intent to be something for the mass. Compared with other entries, I will definitely put more effort and details to the next designs. So stay tuned for some other special designs xD

Now lets talk about the winner of the first price. We clearly have our own personal favorite and it can be disappointing, when those favorites didnt made it to the finalists. I know, some of you want the traditional plate armour, while other people want something different. But I wonder about the amount of negative feedback for the first place, because it was the most hyped tank design a few weeks ago. What happened? Calling a tank design with that high amount of details "boring" or "recolor of existing gear", is quite a bit harsh, isnt it? The Lead Designer made his choice, which is a better way, since community votings arent the best idea (for exampel: the hairstyle contest).

So, why dont just celebrate the winners and looking for the next contests for healers and dps? In my opinion, I had a lot fun and was very excited for the announcements.

I'm happy for the artist. Good on them. If I have any negativity then it's on the game designers choosing the path of least resistance on what design to implement. The Allagan Luminous Surcoat just looks like they melded the High Allagan and Ironworks Tank gear together and called it a day.

On concept paper yeah it looks great. I just fear what it'll actually look like when put into practice.

And I guess I like many others wanted to see something unique. And not something that looks samey.

Grump grump. Mean Magius is mean.

I think people just choose to omit certain points the winning design looks too similar to HA? Well it's Allagan themed armor of course it'd be similar.

To be fair, I thought a lot of the sets("pso2"Horizon was one of my favorites as well) were really really good, and I can understand the need to want tanks to look different, tribal, etc. I think though that SE had said that the reason they didnt want mages to glamour in plate armor(yet ironically we have bikini tanks) is for that weird reason, which to me doesnt really make alot of sense cause you can bikini tank. I have no issues with people that do, but as my statement earlier was saying, that probably wasnt something SE was looking for due to past(confuses me why not) statements about glamouring mages with tank gear etc. To be honest, one night i had a few fc mates check the entries out and we had a long discussion. Some of the sets we were like "that totally looks like a badass monk gearset" or "id love to see that on a caster" , while the majority of them were "holy crap thats awesome! makes the raid gear look like crap"

OnionHolics would have been great. So tribal looking.

Tbh I also thought "wait, we have that in the game already, don't we?" for the winner design.
Kind of disappointed because this was the chance to get something different for once. Don't misunderstand, I like many of the gear sets ingame, but the fan designs were like..a breath of fresh air? Or something like that.
Just a different style than what SE's designers would come up with. But they just picked one that looked exactly the same :/

Personally, OnionHolic's design is my favorite out of these.
Since the contest was even announced, I hoped for a set with a more tribal touch.
In my opinion, we barely have any of those sets at all in the game (one for lvl 53 and maaaybe the WAR AF).
They fit tanks really well though, just pure bulk and power. I would have loved to see that set ingame - and I'm pretty sure it would look great on slimmer races too, not just Roegadyn!
(well, maybe silly on lala, but which lala tank does NOT look silly?)
