    Fatal DirectX Error 11000002

When using DirectX11 mode the game regularly crashes (about every 30 seconds during The Striking Tree for example) with this error.
This started happening with the latest Geforce Driver 359.00 and/or patch 3.1.

I have tried cleaning & reinstalling both DirectX and my graphics drivers and also updating my chipset driver, nothing helped. The only thing I can do to prevent the crashes is run the game in non-DX11 mode.

I am using a Geforce GTX 780 & Asus MAXIMUS VII RANGER Gaming MB Z97.

I have had this error in three different instances, each in which I was doing something different in the game. As I had recently updated Windows 10 to the latest patch, I thought it may of been a compatibility issue and went through the steps to ensure that everything was properly updated. DirectX? Good to go. Video drivers? Good to go. Any other Windows updates? Everything fine. Game running in administrator mode? Yes. I restarted my computer and everything seemed to be fine until today, in which I got the "Fatal DirectX Error" again while standing in Limsa Lominsa. I was not moving, teleporting, or doing anything other than returning a whisper to another player.

The error immediately shuts down the client and sometimes will make my browser not respond. The last time, I went to restart my computer and it wouldn't fully reboot. I had to do a forced shut down.

Here are my edited PC specifications from dxdiag for your use:

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
    System Manufacturer: MSI
    System Model: MS-7821
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
    Memory: 16384MB RAM
    DirectX Version: 12
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
    Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Chip type: AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x6818)
    Display Memory: 10193 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 2026 MB
    Shared Memory: 8166 MB

I figured I'd add my problem as a reply to this thread to ensure that I don't contribute to cluttering the forums. However, if I need to create my own thread, please say something.

Check your driver settings...try setting your AA and AF to application controlled. Seen reports in the past that running over 4x has shown strange behavior on the newer cards or drivers. Might want to try lowering the multiplier in game too.

There is also a texture memory issue with the newer generations as well...forget exactly which families and driver version level it started showing up--the workaround was to use the LoD streaming options, may get more bang if you use lower details on distant objects as well. The pop-in effect can be annoying, but if it stabilizes the game until they get the kinks worked out of the drivers/firmwares....

I had the "flashing screen" and "Fatal DirectX Error 11000002" error many time while overclocking, I can no longer overclock my gtx 960 to maintain my usual 60fps

    Win 8.1
    gtx 960
    16 ram

I don't have common hardware with the post above

I went into the control center and checked the settings. AA Mode and Samples are both set to "use application settings". Nothing on my end has changed at all recently, except for me updating Windows. I run on maximum settings in the game. I haven't touched my driver settings. I've been playing this game on PC since 2013 and I have only started experiencing this error in the last few days. It is not a consistent error, which is even more frustrating when trying to pinpoint the reason behind the crashes.

May want to explore dark0's angle then. If your card was overclocked out of the box (compared to reference specs), something may be degraded just enough now to put it on the edge of stability now. Cooling may not be as efficient, PSU may be on the lower side of efficiency, or just wear and tear from stress over time, etc. May be a good idea to check for the dust bunnies... Do a little belated spring cleaning so to speak. Might even need to do a little downclocking from the stock settings.

Doesn't necessarily mean it is a bug. Could be putting a heavier load on the system now, and that is exposing the marginal state of the system configuration.

I have got the same trouble since few days and i have lots of freezes too that i have never had before the 3.1 patch and the windows 10 upgrade. But i think it's a coincidence cause i have the same trouble with the witcher 3 so i suppose it's a windows 10/ graphic card issue....

I tried different "solutions" i found on web but it isn't fixed at all.

I don't really think that it's the card's performance. It happened with the latest patch and is also only happening in DX11 mode. DX9 mode, which has worse performance, doesn't crash. And it also happens only in Final Fantasy, no other games have any issues.
Must be a specific problem between the newest driver and the patch.
I hope that it'll be fixed soon, DX9 Mode has some ugly fps drops in places.
