    Disappointment: Archer Critical Build

    Gear associated:

    Critical Build

    Yew Longbow - double melded with +68 Crit Attack Power
    Body - single meld with +36 Crit Attack Power
    (Total: 104 Crit Attack Power)

    Tested with both DEX and PIE focusing gears (double melded gears and rings)
    No noticeable difference on critical damage output.
    (but of course normal damage is a bit higher with PIE focused)

    Ifrit

    Simply using an Ifrit's Bow and PIE gears.

    Result

    In a Moogle fight, I dealt 30k more damage with Ifrit's bow,
    doing the exact same things in the match...

    And I can't resist to conclude there's something really wrong with how the game is dealing with those critical materia.. or am I doing something wrong?

    Stats in general seem kind of broken still. All that really matters is your weapon's base damage.

    Seems to be the case, I'd really hope it'll be adjusted in the future,
    so that the weapon's base damage isn't the dominant factor in determining the final damage.

    The materia actually did something to my critical damage, but it's still way lower than just using the Ifrit's Bow..
    What made me sad was.. the critical damage dealt with my Ifrit's Bow was slightly higher than my yew longbow.

    My Crab Bow +1 doubled-melded with Dex III and using my cobalt arrows +1 keeps up with the Ifrit bow very well....your wasting your time putting crit damage on anything.

    Arc crit rate is also really low if I'm not mistaken. Putting crit attack power on an archer is kind of a waste because of this. What they really need is +crit rate materia.

    Without boosting your crit rate boosting crit power high is rather pointless.

    Edit: in any case. It's better to hit for 150 constantly then hitting for 200 every now and then and 100 the rest of the time. (not exact numbers but you get the point.)

    Well the Sipahi gloves with +15 crit rate were tested to provide almost no crit increase :/

    You could stat that with the moogle bow, but I have a feeling it won't do anything.

    Also there is a lv15 hat that gives +5 crit rate. I think the crit rate stat in general is just very low. Whether or not it was designed like this on purpose Idk.

    Although I think the formula for determining crit power is a bit OP especially when you add crit attack power materia. This is probably why crit rates are so low.

    Crit rate imo shouldn't be tied to any stats in particular and rather should be more based on abilities. Blindside is a good example of this. It allows you to crit when you want to without being too OP. And also makes materia like Savage Might have more meaning. I think this is probably the design they were going for, but unfortunately there just aren't a lot of skills like that atm.

    the base damage stat on a weapon is the most important stat in game.
