    Crafted accessories are an issue.

    Due to the ability to pentameld crafted slaying and fending accessories with VIT and STR, to be the most effective tank with the current meta, you -must- pentameld and use these accessories. Secondary stats are so weak in comparison to strength that using i150 crafted accessories is vastly superior, especially considering using these you gain(with perfect melds) 155 STR for the loss of only 100 VIT. If we considered these stats to be equal(which they are not, STR is better with the insanely high DPS requirement in savage,) this would still be a huge net gain, not even factoring in the negligible difference in HP at these high gear levels. Accessories that are i150 should -never- be considered superior to their i210 counterparts. This doesn't even touch on the gil cost and/or time requirements needed to procure the materia for these accessories(on my server, I've often been quoted 8 figure total costs.)

    This is easily fixed, however, and a few different methods could be used to achieve this.

    1) Put STR onto all fending accessories.
    This is the most simple fix, and to keep DPS jobs from wanting these, you could make the STR value only about 65% of the VIT value.

    2) Remove the ability to meld primary stats onto crafted accessories.
    This is likely the most controversial fix, as with the current raiding meta, this would require your tanks to sacrifice health for damage or damage for health, neither are good.

    3) Change VIT to work for tanks like DEX does for NIN, and make STR not affect tanks at all.
    The most unlikely fix, as this requires changes to the game itself. This would inherently make tanks do more damage and make fending accessories desirable, but to prevent this from being too much of a damage buff to tanks the rate of attack power gained from VIT would have to be somewhere around 85%, rather than an even exchange.

    But with good enough gear, even pentamelds provide too much HP and you're better off just equipping Slaying 210.

    I've seen lots of high end raid tanks start to replace their pentas with just flat Slaying

    That's... Not the point I was making here. VIT accessories should actually have a use in this game. At the moment they're just filler while you make your pentas, or your gear is good enough to use slaying, if you're willing to put more pressure on your healers.

    At this point, yes, but we're pretty far into the progression on this patch. Going by recent trends, patch 3.1 will introduce i180 accessories, pulling the balance back to where it was at 3.0 (i150 crafted accessories vs i180 doman accessories).

    Kidala: you forgot your 4th point that goes along wit the first suggestions:

    4) Tune content so its not nescessary for tanks to wear pentamelded in the first place due to insane DPS checks.

    This one is needed if one of your first three suggestions become reality and honestly, an encounter shouldn't be weighted only on DPS and Enrage checks. Many people complain about the current state of the PLD for example, but the real problem is not the class, but the current raid content not being properly tuned.

    I don't think it was ever necessary to use pentamelded accessories. They're just definitely a hell of a lot better than trying to use vit accessories.

    i don't see any issue for someone who can afford to them, but issue for someone else.
    btw don't forget crafter will be more crazy than never, if the craft gear don't have any fonctionnality...
    what the point to craft gear, good for nothing XD,
    some end game crafter is already disapointed by the new system, that make many 180 adventurer craft gear overpriced and not fonctionnal at all.
    The issue is the gils, the people don't want to farm to make this accesories and pay XXXXXXXX gils to pentameld, the issue is only because the accesories is harder to farm, than doing one Roulette Ex by day. The issue is people want to spend XXXXXXXX gils for useless skin and don't want to pay for fonctionnal items.
    So no SE please don't remove the ability to pentameld a accesories with others primary stats, just because you remove enough of fonctionnality in craft items, and just because lazy players want only to get easy esoteric gears...
    Don't make the games where we don't need crafters

    I actually like the way it is now. Tanks are one of the few classes that have a choice in their gear. Dumbing it down would only further take away this freedom and rob crafters of one of the few end game battle items actually worth making. It's also created demand in a dead materia market.

    In my opinion, VIT accessories should be completely changed to work like crafted accessories. i190 or i200 VIT accessories should have the 31 STR and 29 VIT of the i150 crafted accessories. That way, every tank will have good HP and damage, and the good/overgeared tanks can still swap to Slaying at some point.
