The more I see this thread or talk about the stats, the more I want parts from it... specifically the gloves. I still want the Shirt/Turban though. The Turban has (as far as I know) the most STR we can have in the head slot. Since you can't attach STR or ATK materia there that would theoretically make it the best dps piece assuming you don't have to hold hate for something right? I'm not sure how the +DEX influences critical hit rate to know if that would make the Tricorne better.

I heard these pieces come from coffers and I kind of just assumed it was the BW Stronghold. Is that where they're from? I've only gotten one key so far and it was junk =/

Friend of mine told me it was from Natalan (sp?) I didn't check but he's done that more then me so worth a shot. I personaly will get it just to have it cause yea it does have very nice stats. Even though you can't put materia in it, it still has stats you can't get from materia so it would be nice to have for when the time calls for them. I just dont understand why Sent gear is able to be slotted but ours and mage gear cant. Who knows maybe they will change it, but if not oh well lol.

I prefer Rainmaker's Tunic anyhow. Higher defense and STR + Attack Power is more beneficial for boss fights than evasion or magic evasion. For solo maybe not but is there anything really troublesome when soloing as a PUG?

P.S. Why the hell can GLD and MRD equip every damn thing we can. Talk about lack of class identity. Those should be limited to high DEF gear. If they can use evasion gear what is the point. /endrant

I was wondering if anyone had the full set yet. Often in xi there was a bonus for the full set and thought maybe that could be the case here.

Yeah the Gloves and the Hat are nice, I would like to have the Alpine War Jacket instead, and my Bladedancers Jackboots are sweet, but all in all i like the set, looks useful. Would be nice if they added in a bonus for completing the set to make it more appealing.

Other than a couple of chest pieces like merc pants and sentinel gear (- the pants) these sets are garbage compared to nq gear with 1 piece of materia.

Yoshi himself has said in an interview that he plans for dropped pieces to be better than HQs, but not better than HQ + 1 materia, which will soon be guarantied HQ and 1 materia is 100% so drops will still be junk.

My personal opinion is that they need to stop replacing gear with better gear every patch and that crafted shouldn't be better than difficult to obtain NM drops. Instead make the gear equally good each patch, just different. It may not work as well as it did in 11 due to pieces being purely on situation and gear swapping being a must, but it should help reduce this WoW effect that the game currently has.

It kinda depends though... better in what sense of the word?

Pugilist for instance can wear Sipahi Turban which has the highest STR for that slot. So for someone going for a STR build, there isn't a better piece regardless of HQ or Materia at the moment since you cannot slot STR or even Attack for that matter to head pieces.

I'm not saying it works like that for the entire set but it's something to think about.
