    Crafting is dead

    I'm like the last person to make a thread like this because I've suffered through every crafting grind SE has thrown at us without complaining. I've always been a wait-and-see-before-complaining person but I'm going to have to make an exception this one time; this is absolutely the worst change I've seen. When I heard red scrips were going to be locked on a weekly basis, I was under the impression it was just for gear progression. Release difficult recipes, lock crafter AF2s behind red scrips, let crafters decide when and how to craft. Perfectly fine. Instead, everything is locked behind the red scrips. Not only are we limited to making 2-3 items per week for progression, we can't craft anything else because they all require the same mats.

    So one of two things will happen now: either crafters will focus entirely on self-progression or some will sell scrip mats. If crafters focus on progression, nothing will be on sale for months, by which point 3.1 will roll around and the gear will already be obsolete. They're not even worth crafting for glamour because for some strange reason they have the exact same models as the 1 star crafts, which aren't gated. If instead crafters sell the mats, anything crafted out of them will cost ludicrous amounts of gil, which no one but the top 1% will be able to afford, i.e. awful for the economy.

    Furthermore, combat classes who helped stabilize supplies will no longer be able to do so. DoW/M used excess tomes to purchase and sell mats, which provided them with a source of income and crafters with a steady supply. Win-win for everyone. Now DoW/M have to find somewhere else to dump seals and crafters have to work with scarce supplies. Brilliant.

    I'm sure I forgot another point to rant about but too busy leveling an alt to bypass the stupid limit. I guess I'll be making stacks of food after spending 10 glorious minutes of crafting each week. Thanks SE.

    The only chance they have to avoid this would be if they add make some of the items obtained from red scripts also obtainable with law. I HIGHLY doubt this will happen, but I'm kind of in shock about how badly they seem to have butchered everything if this isn't the case.

    Maybe they will make them availble via Law/GC seals/esoterics but didnt just yet because it would give people a head start before redscripts even became available?

    Agreed I was under the impression blue scripts would be mainly for all your consumables and specialist specific mats, and red scripts would only be for gear and maybe a book if they were pushing specialists more.

    Would also like to point out gatherers need to spend red scripts in order to locate the new nodes with the new mats so that doesn't help anyone either when they are also going to want to gear and I don't think there is a new crafted gathering set equivalent for the gathers to use like the crafting ones have?

    I agree with you totally. I hate to admit it too but if what we see now holds...crafting will be done. They need to fix this before it comes out asap.

    I'd rather it was dead.

    Dead implies there's some remote chance for change. After all, nobody wants crafting and gathering to stop happening ... Right? Or is my tiny shard of optimism blinding me?

    This? This is just going to lead to super-crafter companies dominating everything and because the metrics will show there are crafters working, nothing will change. People think omni-crafters were bad? At least they'd get into pricing wars and push things down somewhat! If there's only one mega-guild that's doing the crafting, price fixing galore. And because it's virtually impossible to get into ... well.... obviously the price is fair.
