    Just One Small Complaint

I'm really enjoying FF XIV ARR. I adore my character, I've joined a good Free Company full of nice people, and I'm starting to get into the story.

There is just one small thing I don't like.

There's too much gold seller spam! Every time I log in or go through a gate I'm spammed and have to add them to my blacklist. I realize that Heavensward just released and that is probably why there's so much spam. I have two questions regarding this:

How much space do I get on the blacklist?

What is SE doing to combat all these gold spammers?

Oh you'll become very well acquainted with the RMT spammers. You're blacklist is fairly big, so I'd just black list them when you get the opportunity, otherwise just ignore them. After a year, I've given up even trying to blacklist most of them. The most annoying thing to me about them nowadays is when I'm /tell-ing a friend in game and I hit /r to reply to them but an RMT message appears right before I hit ENTER and I end up replying to the RMT.

Short answer, it's a pain and unfortunately I think it's gonna be around for quite a wile.

The issue with gold spammers in a game like this is they only work when people are buying from them. You can try and combat them but at a time with a buncha new players (Alot of which are possible gold buyers) the built in securities get overwhelmed since gold farmers have much more funding/resources/buyers.

However, keep in mind 99% of the time bans go out in waves. Meaning it will be terrible for awhile, then one day the world will go silent as thousands of accounts are banned.

Just ignore them for now, best you can do. If you have troubles with blacklist limit go ahead and clear it since gold farmers make new accounts every few hours to avoid targeting. You wont get whispered from old people on the list.

would not waste the BL space for them, they get banned but not deleted so now you have no sapce to BL the real player that actually needs to be on it

An ugly solution as it blocks things you will want to receive, but it can provide relief when it gets really bad.

There are also third party mods for blocking RMT spam. However, SE does not permit third party mods, so if you're curious about those you would have to ask somewhere else.

Thank you all for your replies. I think my best bet for the moment will just be to fill up my blacklist and then empty it out and refill it again.

In other MMOs I've played I've never blocked very many people. Someone has to behave really badly to go on my block list. Gold spammers, of course, are a different story.

I've never had a single tell since the launch of heavensward. The problem is completely fixed for me. What are you guys doing to pull their attention? Got a track record of buying gold?

KitKatnip, I completely understand your frustration with the gil seller spam! Here's what I did:

I made a new tab in the chat box, and set it to show Tells only on that tab, and I turned off the sound notification for Tells. I check the new tab every once in a while in case I missed someone who isn't a gil seller trying to chat with me. At least I don't have to hear the notifications and look at all that pink text this way, because I find all of that really distracting!

This works for me because I'm generally a solo player so I'm not expecting to hear from anyone anyway. YMMV. :-)

That macro used to be pretty popular before SE added the right-click blacklist option. Now it's kind of a waste of hotbar space for something we can do directly from the chat box. Just right-click on the spam message (or select it and press the square button on controller) and you get the menu of options for responding to the message. That includes the option for blacklisting the sender.
