Post Very Important! Video Inside.. Shadows & Anti-Aliasing & Distance View problem

    Hello

So I had this problem 3 weeks ago and I'm not the only one having it, some people on my FC noticed it as well.

Before showing the video, I tested the game with new install in 2 different PCs and same problem occurs.

    PC1 _ i7 2600 _ gtx 550 ti _ Windows 7 64 Ultimate

    PC1 _ i7 4770 _ gtx 960 _ Windows 8.1 64 Pro

The Video with Annotation to explain

Please Devs, don't ignore, at least comment or say that you're working a fix, the problem happens on all setting with both DX9 and DX11.

This should be the first thing they do on hotfix, as it distract us every second from the gameplay, can't play like this.

I'm getting the same thing and on top of that, those horizontal lines as well. Like I don't mind the shadow much but whatever happened since HW with the lines on the horizon is driving me banana. :X

I haven't noticed this at all, will check when I get home. Do all of you have Nvidia cards? I know AMD's drivers are un-optimised as all hell for FFXIV as well, but I'm thinking that could have something to do with it.

have you tried changing your detail settings for both the game and your graphics card? Some of what you are seeing may be due to the LOD and AA transitions--some cards will try to enhance game settings and can muddy things up (-LOD Bias and such can have odd effects too).

I just run everything as application/performance in the driver. On a laptop (i7-3630Quad, NV GTX-670MX, older ASUS OEM drivers) so have lower detail settings and such set in game to keep the FPS nearly locked at 60, so the transition is very slight and barely noticeable.

Even if I had the extra horsepower, I would probably still keep the detail settings low because it just looks too unnatural for things to be so sharp all the time. Especially shadows---shadows from trees and such shouldn't have so much definition anyway, especially if the wind is blowing through them. I also don't like some of the banding that shows up sometimes with filtering either (AF/Tri/Bi)--not to mention the shimmering effect that can crop up during movement. Sometimes the highest settings cause more annoyances than just the performance impact. I prefer to have more consistent frame rates.

I can confirm this bug, turning ON LOD actually make shadows higher quality in every aspect.
they are more detailed, the draw "framerate" seems better, and they do not flicker.
(obviously tuning on LOD makes everything else look bad, including shadow drawdistances, as it should.)

The smal draw distance bubble is a bit annoying.
