FFXIV major NA news release: Chocobo's and Airships (why?)

    First MMORPG.com

    http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/g...-Airships.html

    Then pc.ign.com

Final Fantasy XIV Getting Airships, Chocobos
    http://pc.ign.com/articles/119/1196323p1.html

Massively is the only original English gaming site that really covers the game regularly, these other sites rarely if ever report on the game. Both articles are thinly veiled insults to a game they reviewed poorly that something "so simple" is only now being added, and they report the information as if that is all that has been added/is being added.

I was wondering if maybe Square Enix sent out a news release to major gaming sites (like they do for major announcements/sales/expansions for XI) for these sites to even pay the game any notice. If so why would you do that? That is a horrible mistake and it completely misrepresents the game/development progress.

This is just feeding the fuel of hate for this game. If you didn't release the chocobo information to these websites, then maybe you should release other info to them as well to round out their reporting. When this is the only thing that they report on regarding FFXIV it looks very bad.

It might be even worth it to give a non-Japanese gaming outlet an exclusive, how is that too much marketing when it doesn't cost you advertising money? Isn't it your job to influence the release of information and public opinion about the game in a positive way? That's what PR people do in every other industry...

Or do you only do that in Japan?

If any other players would like to get more informative and accurate news stories on these sites you can contact the "reporters" and websites here:

MMORPG.com usually posts news articles on the game. Not as much as massively, but regularly enough.

This is nothing compared to their article on the latest letter of the producer. "Patch 1.19 delayed" was the headline. What the heck?

    But yeah MMORPG.com is garbage.

Also nobody gives a damn. They need to fix the game before getting all upset about the press.

That's not the point. People who are no longer actively following the game are not going to go to an FFXIV site. This game needs accurate representation in the Gaming "media" despite how absolutely terrible and unrespectable gaming "journalism" happens to be as a profession.

Someone at Square Enix is clearly not doing their job. This is not an issue of marketing, or waiting to allocate advertising time/money at the game until after the revamp. This is Square Enix grossly mishandling the message being presented about their product. This is doing untold damage to your chances of a successful relaunch. Please do something about this.

Even if SE sent out loads of details they are restricted to what they can share with us because they obviously want to announce things here and not through some media source. And the Media Source come here for news so they only know as much as us.

Its expected, live with it. If SE dont want this hassle they should of hired people ages ago to rush things up and not spend a year doing something so simple as a Chocobo because the media are completely correct lol.

Dont hate on them because SE put themselfs in a bad position.

This sums it up perfectly. Until Square says the game is ready for fees everything anyone says about FFXIV is the "truth".

That is not how you run a business. You don't expect people to come to you to get information on your products. If someone is reporting on your product, it is the PR departments job to help make it tell the story they want to be told.

I'm guessing the story they want to tell isn't: It took us a whole year to get chocobo's and airships, and the patch containing pretty much just them is delayed! The End.

I'd think SE's number one priority at the moment is that the game does well in Japan.

They probably do not see the English-speaking media's reports as a cause for immediate concern at this moment in time.

The people who visit MMORPG.com and the like will most likely forget about all what's happened once the site starts reporting positive things about the game once SE's English PR department start getting on top of things.

I still find it hard to believe people go to those kinds of outlets for information.

They should get on things now, because much of their audience may not be paying attention by then. They may read this and simply write this game off.
