Reasonable price to relinquish land?

It's economics, there's no supply and a ton of demand, of course people will take the highest price they can get. I personally bought my small house right on launch of the personal housing system, but I'd gladly pay 20mill to own one had I started playing after all wards were taken. Gil comes and goes but your house is there forever.

I would actually only expect the price to rise with time; not only will there be more gil in the economy, there will be fewer and fewer plots going on the market.

New wards (+Ishgard housing zone) are expected to be added in 3.1, some folks will try to sell their houses before that happens. It may drop prices a bit.

So first thry want to fix current wards, 9 months later. Then they have to implement transfer system, 6 months later. Then they have to create the Ishgard housing area, 9 months later.
Oh and don't forget, these fixes and features will cause extra stress on the servers. You know, the same servers that can't handle giving every person a 3rd free retainer, the same servers that can't handle a plethora of features because they fear servers will become unstable.

So don't get me wrong, I never said it won't happen. I have faith that it will, but 2 years down the road after they decided to revamp however innefficient way they set some of this stuff up, and/or upgrade their servers tremendously.

Please SE, please prove me wrong. Make me look like a fool I beg you. The community I'm sure would love some definitive answers on when you will be able to handle some of these server breaking features, and I am 100% willing to become the laughing stock if it gets a response for everyone. XD
