You've got a couple more expacs before we are desperate enough for a time travel expac... Perhaps 6.0

Oh Gods, that could end up causing a time paradox at Cartenou. Go 5 years back to stop the calamity, it happens any way and Louisoix send us 5 years forward, only for 2.xx - 3.xx to happen and us get flung back in time again. That's a Psychic Telephone Paradox waiting to happen.
Carteneaux altering is the only potentional "break" though.Oh Gods, that could end up causing a time paradox at Cartenou. 1.x Echo already functioned as pseudo time travel... you didn't just VIEW memory you LIVED it... you altered it you could bring things FROM the memory to the present despite it being a 5-10 year old memory. Certain things "Happened" in the past.. and it turns out WE DID THAT so without us going into the echo it wouldn't have happened.
the only problem is that 1.x echo "types" don't seem to exist anymore there is only "Memory viewing" echo now only this one can't participate, only view.
Don't worry, I seriously doubt they'll go that far. Maybe one-day we'll be able to witness it again, but changing it is highly unlikely. They'll end FFXIV first and we'll get ffxxii. If we get any time travel it will probably just be a couple instances to specific events.Oh Gods, that could end up causing a time paradox at Cartenou. The thing is that people asking for such an event/expansion in order to 'experience 1.0's story' fail to realize is that 1.0's story has been effectively abandoned by SE, at least, the original story anyway (the original starting city stories and the Path of the Twelve arc). This is because the original storyline was cannibalized for ideas and concepts that ARR's story was developed from, meaning it's just more of the same (the development team stated a while ago that any concepts or story ideas that were mentioned in 1.0 that don't appear in ARR have been effectively abandoned, meaning 1.0's is now retconned in a George Lucas-esque, "unless we say it is canon to ARR everything mentioned in 1.0's story is now abandoned", sort of way).
Thus this is pretty conclusive that even if a hypothetical FFXIV equivalent expansion to FFXI's Wings of the Goddess was later implemented, what we would see would actually be completely different to the actual story 1.0 players experienced, due to the previously mentioned retconning.
Remember, ARR is not so much a sequel story wise as a reboot in every way, including story. It means 1.0's story is gone forever I'm afraid.

I've made this suggestion somewhere before. It would be side content - sorta like the sightseeing log... you would get some information, get to an area where something was happening and then utilize the echo to relieve those moments. It could be a CS or actual combat or other stuff. Though frankly would like to see this a a lore giving questline anyway. Could show some older lore and stuff.
Ima pass on being reminded of 1.0 of FF14.
Also may I point out that the 1.0 world was fully re-implemented into the game and just updated but all remained in tact? I still recall Gridania exactly as it was before and now.
Your story idea could be fun but I would dislike the idea of playing anything of the 1.0 world ever again. It was gated to shit and utter trash.
