OFF TOPIC DISCUSSION

It has come to my attention as of late we have no area on the forums to just talk about whatever we wish to talk about without getting our threads deleted. We as players wish to connect as a community outside of the game and talk about the same kind of stuff that we do talk about in the game. So I am asking SE is for you to create an Off Topic branch like General Discussion on the Forums for players to talk about stuff that doesn't have to do directly with FFXIV and/or about anything we wish. Of course though I do understand certain topics may still be frowned upon and will still not be able to be spoken of, but that is fine as long as you give us somewhere we can just talk freely.

This also would be a great place for the FFXIV team and all the moderators as chance to connect to the players outside of game. Even if it is only for a brief post from time to time if they wish to do so. The team may come up with great ideas to implement in the game if they find out more of what the players like to do when they are outside of the game. Another source of inspiration if you will, so please take this post into consideration and give us an area where we can talk freely and have fun.

IMO they just should use the effort of locking/removing topics to move them to the proper forum and toss the OP a warning about posting the topic in the wrong place.

With this, everything would be at right place, including off-topic stuff at general discussion. Because popping the warning can be automatic (just like most forums do) and moving a topic takes nearly the same effort of locking or deleting it...its not like 2~3 extra clicks per topic can be that bad.

I agree General discussion was way too chaotic...but its exactly what general discusion forums very often are...that's why i've been asking (for a while already) that FFXIV-related topics (specially the ones that receeived dec response) were moved from there to the proper forum. But removing the possibility of off-topic discussions to be taken here would end as a major turnoff to users, shrinking even more the already minimal forum active playerbase.

Once again SE was way too radical regarding its decisions. If its the case of directing forum effort to feedback, then leave just a moderator (or even a voluntary/assistant moderator) taking care of moving topics to its correct forum and then make general discussion o forum where neither devs or community reps would need to actually go.

This will never happen because if SE implements an "off topic" section, then they will also have to moderate it. This takes from the purpose of this forum, which is explicitly to discuss the game. SE brought this forum online for only 3 purposes; for players to find information about the game, for players to discuss changes to the game (feedback), and for SE to communicate with the players. Off-Topic doesn't fall in any of those categories, so you're SOL I'm afraid. There are just too many cons to this idea and not enough pros (in SE's eyes).

I disagree 100%. I see way more pros than cons in this situation and even stated some in the original post. Only con I see is having to moderate the forums but that time would be made up by them not having to delete so many threads they can simply move them to the off topic section assuming they don't go against the user agreement that would be stickied in the off topic thread.

Also it is not about if they will do it or not, it is a suggestion that more people would be for and if the need or want is there enough perhaps they will answer our call on this subject.
