System to Automatically Relinquish Personal Housing?

    Hi all,

I'm looking to unsub from FFXIV until 3.0 hits. I currently own a house in Mist. Would I automatically relinquish my personal house after a certain period of inactivity / unsubbing, similar to how one would automatically relinquish FC Leadership after 30 days?

    Thanks for your help!

Was planned once but it was not implemented and until now we have no News about this System ,neither when (if at all) it is comming or how long an abandonded house stays in Possession of the inactive account.

It wont, but I kind of wish it would after a large period of time. There are so many houses on our server from people/FC's that haven't existed since a month or so after housing was released

People who aren't paying for the game shouldn't retain limited content. I hope SE does implement plot reset one day. On Balmung there's already several houses of FCs that will never come back again in the older wards.

It was backpedaled because the players cried foul and complained that they shouldn't have to be forced to log in just to keep the house. (RL/whatever excuse they came up with)

    So what's happening now then?

I see plots open up from time to time on Hyperion, usually sitting for a few days before they are snatched up again.

There is/was a large plot open (5th Ward/plot 33) as of last weekend (~76m) in Lavender beds, but no idea who owned before or what happened to the owner.

Does that mean that they left the server? Inactive? Or just relinquished the land without finding a buyer before hand?

Before that, the Goblet had 1 plot come up and the taken within a few days. Another in Lavender Beds (medium) took 5 days to sell. I was going to buy the medium one, but it got snatched up before I could arrange a small bridge loan to get the total cash needed. :/ (Edit: There was another plot in Mist I believe it was, again, opened up unexpectedly and sat for a week before someone bought it...)

    I'm curious...

I'm completely baffled at the fact that a few whiners forced SE's hands not to implement such a feature. It's completely reasonable in general, to be honest; and especially with the housing system this game has, how limited and poorly executed it is in its mechanics, I think it's absolutely vital to have an auto-relinquish feature.

If you make an investment as big as buying a plot, I'd imagine you actually play, anyhow. I'm not sure why logging in every 30 days (for example) is such a big deal to some.

It probably just clashes with FF14's identity as a "casual" mmo.. I would assume Japanese attitudes had more to do with it than what NA/EU people did..

I could have accepted that as reasoning, the game wanting to be casual I mean, back at launch. And for a little while after that. With all the insane grinding and (double/triple) RNG gated content that's in it now though, if ever actually given as an answer, it would be laughable at best - as probably you yourself feel it too, judging by the quotation marks you put the word itself in.

Rather than suggesting that people should have their hard-earned money vanishing into thin air if they decide to take a break from the game for a month or two, you should be asking SE for more wards. It's THEIR mess, punishing the playerbase for SE's reluctance to upgrade their servers in order to provide the amount of housing that's required to sate the demand is the wrong thing to do.

It was SE's decision to limit the amount of plots. It was SE's decision to charge a damn fortune for them. Forcing players to keep their sub up nonstop in order to not have that invested fortune evaporating would be nothing short of disgusting.
