Lot of complaining in this thread that you can't hit forward and win anymore.

I think the changes were awesome and Chocobo Racing is much better now. Beef up your choco, train every level, and stay on the bottom bracket and you can succeed. The items before seemed totally random so the first place guy would just get Hero Tonic after Sprint Shoes after Stamina Tablet, not to mention the meteor showers. That was broken. This is much more balanced and challenging.

In general I agree with theendcomes. My G9 choc is 4/1/3/4/4 and still has ChocDash3 which remains very good when used late or after an Aether, unlike HeadStart which I dumped. Its pretty useless now. I run dead last now for almost half the race avoiding all kinds of stuff but still with the possibility of getting some good items while not using a lot of stamina. Don't however train every level with a G9 because the random 5% may end up being wasted. I've tried several abilities now and think Increased Stamina3 is really good. As a passive you always know what you'll get with an Aether.

So somebody obviously didn't read every post as it was explained clearly that :"Holding forward to win" ISN'T the issue. The issues people have been having have been clearly explained. If you think it's "Waaaaa easy mode is gone" then you are wrong. Try reading before spouting off and trying to sound "superior".

Absolutely. Got Stamina 3 by luck and the difference is immense.

And it's not like that you may win, if you don't run the whole game. Just means, that the NPC are crushing you in the middle of the race, not at the end. You can save a little Stamina without losing too much speed, but it's not that much. The NPC got enough Stamina to sprint the whole race. Only when they eat really heavy stamina drains (for example from the traps and monsters), they got problems.

The NPCs are keeping themselves just short of lathered state. They're constantly shifting between sprinting and just trotting. Smack them with Frenzy and it'll really throw off their rhythm.

Met another player who was still rocking the old Dash + Headstart combo. I sat in the pack and watch him trying desperately to maintain 1st place the entire race (sprint all the way), draining his own stamina like a thirsty man drinking water. I tossed him a frenzy and that was the end of him.

On a side note: My Choco has 100% Heavy resistance and 80% Frenzy resist, so the only thing I have to worry about is Briar and managing my stamina. Don't have to worry about silences too. I feel absolutely godly. Too bad my stats suck and Aethers are useless to me :<

Has anyone experienced this? I'm pretty much stuck on lathered mode the entire race. As soon as I push on accelerate, it automatically goes into lathered debuff and my stamina is drained before I can finish the race. I keep up on training and had absolutely no problems winning races prior to the patch but now I cant do anything but walk and of course come in last due to it.

It's not just you Kio. These changes to the chocobo races were WAY overtuned. These changes themselves were a good idea. The numbers they put behind them were not. There should be stamina budgeting in Chocobo races, but not to the point they have turned it into now. I mean now you get hit by 1 water and you can pretty much hang it up. Hopefully they will hotfix this, and make it fun again.

I did read every post. A lot of them were complaining just because they don't win as easily anymore. Some of them did not do that. But hey, don't let me stop you from whining about it.

Jubs is amused by some of these 'Every thing is fine. This is great. You ezmoders just suck' comments. People should be posting what races they are doing and generation/rank... cause honestly, 180-240 Costa doesn't count. If some of you taking your post-2.55 experiences from the easiest set of races, stop posting until you've tried other segments.

I have a P9 R300 (20 star) chocobo raised prior to the 2.55 patch (Head Start / Dash III combo). Some thoughts for those interested in what it's like at the end:

Before 2.55 the win rate on my track of choice (Sagoli) was about 80%. You would never lose unless hit by meteor (and sometimes still win if hit by 1), but the frequency of multiple meteors was so high that you would lose fairly often. The 2.55 changes have definitely helped out in that you don't see multiple meteors that often anymore. Frenzy is definitely scary now, but I actually still just hold the forward button until out of stamina and have a win rate of at least 90% comfortably on Costa del Sol.

The key is getting out ahead of the pack and dictating chests to try to avoid being hit by frenzy / gravity. Being pushed around in the pack getting spammed by waters and gravity balls is not fun. For this reason, Head Start is still incredibly useful. Dash III is also still very good because you end up in so many situations at the end of races where everyone is out of stamina. In these scenarios, Dash III is great since it gives you 3 seconds at max speed and lets you cover some extra distance as you decelerate back to lamed speed.

For anyone interested, here's a random video of me farming R-300 Costa del Sol (7 wins and 1 loss). Farming MGP it's about 7,500 to 8,000 MGP an hour going at a pretty leisurely pace. Head Start / Dash combo definitely still works at the highest level, but I'm sure there are more ability combinations that will allow you to be successful now though.
