its either final coil "die and the entire party wipe" or snoozefest like fenrir
why isnt there a balance?

Cause no developer nowadays respects the intelligence of it's players.
I think the issue was when they made Labyrinth of the Ancients they said it was "too difficult" and spent another few months simplifying it. Looking back at LOTA nowadays I can say that it was possibly one of the most difficult things outside of coil because too many people didn't listen.
Don't kill skeletons next to each other (everyone wipes)
Stay on platform and kill atomos, kill adds before too many spawn (everyone wipes)
I'd say I don't think I remember wiping very often to the boss where you protect the pots
Don't let bombs get to center (everyone wipes)
click towers, don't face behemoth to towers, keep iron giant away from comets, don't drop comets too close to behemoth (30 minutes of everyone wiping)
get to platforms when sword goes red (everyone wipes)
So when they made Syrcus Tower it was simple and just re-used things people already knew from doing the first raid to get into ST. Since then they have had everything be easy mode apart from the coils, Also since Titan i don't think there's things around where individuals can essentially wipe parties anymore on the simpler content either.
As mentioned below, I think what they have tried to do is make the less intense content "idiot proof" where one stupid person doesn't compromise everyone else's ability to complete the content.

Yeah well as an actual gamer playing this game, I can understand why there's no respect for the 'intelligence' of the players. Intelligent players will be held back by the swarms of unintelligent masses who find concepts such as stacking behind a boss to be way too difficult for them.
I'm torn between wanting hard content and wanting content that I can actually clear without being held back by idiots all day every day.
I think what would help is tightening up ilevel sync once it's reimplemented. All 2.0-2.1 content should be synced to i90, 2.2-2.3 i110 and 2.4-2.5 i130. A lot of content that used to have a moderate difficulty has been rendered obsolete because we out gear it. However they should also implement more moderate difficulty content as well.
I know a lot of people argue this with how the original Pharos Sirius was often ignored by players but that had more to do with the rewards not being on par with the difficulty then the difficulty being too high. I would like to see more content around that difficulty and slightly harder implemented with the proper rewards.
It is the ongoing dilemma isn't it? I really wish I could do Coils... I think I know turn five fairly well but I don't have a static and DF fails me miserably in the party department... I dislike running LotA because of the lack of coordination for tactics that need a lot and everything is so arbitrary... I like ST because it's easier to explain and understand. WoD seems like it may be stepping back to the LotA mould a little but hopefully it will still be easy to understand the mechanics.

Because the middle area of content you just consider easy content.
Pretty much this. There are people who still can't comprehend that you shouldn't stack Hailstorms in Shiva EX.Yeah well as an actual gamer playing this game, I can understand why there's no respect for the 'intelligence' of the players. Because other than final coil most players over gear them so they are much easier than designed.
Something I have learn in years playing MMOs is that there are really stupid people playing them, too many.
Difficulty means very little to me. So long as I find the game engaging. And for the most part, I have (for bosses).
